Already under scrutiny about a dog dying in an overhead bin and another dog being accidentally sent to Japan, United Airlines on Friday acknowledged its third animal-related mistake in a week.A flight was diverted to Akron, Ohio, on Thursday after the airline realized a pet had been loaded onto the flight in error, airline spokeswoman Maggie Schmerin told CNN.Flight 3996 was carrying 33 passengers from Newark, New Jersey, to St. Louis, but the pet was due to fly from New Jersey to Akron. United told CNN the unidentified animal was "safely delivered to its owner."United said it offered compensation to all passengers as a result of the diversion. The airline declined to provide details about the compensation.There were two earlier animal-related mistakes made by United Airlines this week.Tuesday, a 10-year-old German shepherd named Irgo was flown to Japan when he was supposed to end up in Kansas. In Irgo's place was a Great Dane that was supposed to be en route to Japan.Irgo was reunited with his family Thursday. United issued an apology after the discovery of the switched dogs.Monday, a French bulldog died on a Houston-to-New York flight after a United flight attendant told its owners to put the dog, in its carrier, in an overhead bin. United spokesman Jonathan Guerin said the passenger told the flight attendant there was a dog in the carrier, but the attendant "did not hear or understand her, and did not knowingly place the dog in the overhead bin."The incident drew outrage online and prompted a US senator to demand an explanation from United."As we stated, we take full responsibility and are deeply sorry for this tragic accident. We remain in contact with the family to express our condolences and offer support," Guerin said. A Wisconsin man says a dog's lick caused him to get a bacterial infection that eventually led to him having to have his legs amputated.Greg Manteufel's wife Dawn said her husband was once a Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider and was healthy just one month ago. He became ill with what they initially believed to be influenza.Blood tests revealed capnocytophaga, the bacteria that spread throughout Manteufel's body. All across the small town of Octavia, Neb., about two hours north and west of Omaha, residents woke up Wednesday morning to find damage from softball-sized hail the night before.Jennifer Rose says the hail damaged her two vehicles."It started like just raining and you could hear the plunking of the hail," Rose said. "And it started started small, like ping pong-sized, and it kept getting bigger and bigger."Roofer Bryan Underwood says Octavia was pummeled with hail causing damage to roofs, vehicles and siding. ALISO VIEJO, Calif. -- The woman killed in an explosion authorities believe was intentional in Orange County Tuesday has been identified as Ildiko Krajnyak-Vestil of Trabuco Canyon.The explosion happened from the inside of the two-story medical facility located on 5 Mareblu just after 1 p.m.The person who died was inside the building at the time of the blast. Authorities first believed a car had crashed into the side of the building but later said that isn’t the case.The FBI and a bomb squad were sent to the scene to assess the situation and investigate the cause of the explosion.At a press conference Wednesday afternoon, the FBI said they ruled out any accidental cause of the explosion, saying they believe the incident was intentional. An FBI official said there were items found at the scene that were inconsistent with what would be at the medical facility. A motive is unclear at this time and authorities say they haven't arrested any suspects. Officials told KABC that the medical facility appeared to be under construction. A preschool in the area was ordered to evacuate as a precaution after the explosion. Authorities held a news conference giving an update on the investigation Wednesday afternoon.
