SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A splash of color brings life back to Bay Park Elementary. Over the weekend, parents and volunteers joined together to give the school a facelift. The beautification project now has kids excited to come to school. “They were just blown away,” says Emily Auer. “Their face just lit up. They actually touched the walls.”Bay Park Elementary is approaching it’s the 80th anniversary. The school’s beautification team brought together almost 80 volunteers. The project started Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. Volunteers painted the walls and wooden backpack holders. Parents tell 10News one family donated a bunch of small desks with chairs that now sit in the halls. Behr gave the paint for the project. “Such a wonderful group of kids, so positive,” says parent Erica Krystek. “We really wanted that positivity reflected in the hallways.”The Bay Park Elementary Beautification Team plans to do more upgrades in the future. They hope to paint and add new carpet to the school’s auditorium. 1022

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers over the weekend seized 314 pounds of narcotics and captured 14 fugitives.Officers intercepted 181 pounds of methamphetamine, 55 pounds of cocaine, 11 pounds of heroin, 31 pounds of fentanyl and 36 pounds of marijuana.RELATED: U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seize 1,800 pounds of drugs worth .2 millionIt total, officials say the drugs are worth more than .4 million. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With rising home prices and amid an affordability crisis, a weaker housing market is being predicted in 2019 by the California Association of Realtors.The report seems to confirm a report published earlier Thursday morning by Trulia. Home sales are already seeing a slump compared to 2017 and the trend is expected to continue in 2019, with an expected 3.3 percent drop.“While home prices are predicted to temper next year, interest rates will likely rise and compound housing affordability issues,” said C.A.R. President Steve White.“Would-be buyers who are concerned that home prices may have peaked will wait on the sidelines until they have more clarity on where the housing market is headed. This could hold back housing demand and hamper home sales in 2019.”Meanwhile, the median home price is forecast to increase by 3.1 percent to 3,450 in 2019, following a 7 percent increase in 2018.The association added that the surge in home prices due to supply shortages is finally taking a toll on the market. Adding more uncertainty is outmigration, according to the association.Outmigration is the result of the state’s housing affordability crisis, which is predicted to be a concern for the California housing market in 2019 as interest rates continue to rise.According to the organization, 28 percent of homebuyers moved out of the county they previously lived in, up from 21 percent in 2017.The association warns that outmigration will continue as long as home prices remain out of reach and interest rates rise in the upcoming year. 1574

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Vandals damaged a park in Sabre Springs Thursday night, dumping sand into toilets and scrawling inappropriate graffiti on the walls. Trash cans were emptied out and piles of wood chips were dumped along the entrance to the South Creek Neighborhood Park. The clogged toilets and sinks caused minor flooding in the bathrooms. Some of the plumbing was also damaged, according to the San Diego Police Department. City crews cleaned up the mess by the afternoon. Police were still searching for the culprits Friday. 537
