China's economic growth beat forecasts to reach 6.9 percent year-on-year in 2017, marking the first acceleration since 2010 despite financial regulatory tightening and measures against pollution that affect growth.

China's economy is growing at a stronger rate and the government will focus on pushing structural reforms and curbing systemic financial risks in the second half of the year, a senior official at China's top economic policy body said on Thursday.

China's new economy, which includes the adoption of information technologies across various sectors, is estimated to account for 12 percent of the country's GDP this year, according to a report published last month by Renmin University of China and China Chengxin Credit Management.

China's overall leverage ratio is at a medium level internationally and it is stabilizing, said the NDRC, citing data from the Bank for International Settlements.
