NEW YORK (AP) — Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says there might be no major league games this year.This comes amid a breakdown in talks between teams and the players' union on how to split up money in a season delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.The league also revealed several players have tested positive for COVID-19.Two days after union head Tony Clark declared additional negotiations futile, Deputy Commissioner Dan Halem sent a seven-page letter to players’ association chief negotiator Bruce Meyer asking the union whether it will waive the threat of legal action and tell MLB to announce a spring training report date and a regular-season schedule.“The proliferation of COVID-19 outbreaks around the country over the last week, and the fact that we already know of several 40-man roster players and staff who have tested positive, has increased the risks associated with commencing spring training in the next few weeks,” Halem wrote in his letter to Meyer, which was obtained by the Associated Press.The pandemic caused the league to stop spring training on March 12, two weeks before the start of the season. NEW YORK — As people across the world prepare for holiday celebrations, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced new COVID-19 quarantine advisories for those traveling to New York City.The order goes into effect immediately.Amid concerns of a new COVID-19 variant found in the United Kingdom, those traveling from the UK will be personally served a Department of Health Commissioner’s Order to quarantine by the Sheriff’s Office.There will also be a follow-up door knock by the sheriff’s Travel Unit to make sure people are complying, according to the mayor.All other travelers coming to the city will receive a Department of Health Commissioner’s Order to quarantine via certified mail.Those who do not comply will be issued a ,000 fine the first day and another ,000 for each additional day.“If you don’t follow the quarantine, you’re endangering everyone in the city,” Mayor de Blasio said.The mayor also encouraged New Yorkers to avoid traveling during the holidays, stay local and celebrate with their immediate household.“The best gift you can give is to make sure the people you love will be able to gather together and next year in 2021."The new compliance order comes as Gov. NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Monday is believed to be connected to a shooting at a federal judge's New Jersey home Sunday, killing her son and injuring her husband, law enforcement sources told PIX11 News.The man was found dead in a vehicle on Route 17 in Sullivan County, New York, wearing a FedEx shirt, sources said.Gov. Phil Murphy said he had no comment about the development when asked about it Monday at his daily press briefing.The discovery comes after a gunman opened fire at Judge Esther Salas' North Brunswick home Sunday, killing her 20-year-old son, Daniel, and wounding her husband, defense lawyer Mark Anderl, Chief District Judge Freda Wolfson told the Associated Press.Another law enforcement source, who wasn’t authorized to comment and spoke anonymously to the AP Sunday, said the gunman posed as a FedEx delivery driver.They said Salas wasn't injured as she was in the basement at the time of the shooting.The FBI said late Sunday it was looking for one suspect in connection with the shooting.Officials have not commented on any possible motive for the shooting.Judge Salas was set to preside over a class action lawsuit filed last Wednesday against Deutsche Bank.
