TAIYUAN, June 24 (Xinhua) -- While China has seen 55.64 million rural people lifted out of poverty in more than four years, "abject poverty" remains, and so President Xi Jinping has put himself on the frontline.
The Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China in 2013 consists of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road. It aims to build a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along and beyond the ancient Silk Road trade routes.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, Chen Weixiong, deputy director of the UN Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, said that the Internet along with other communication technologies has become a major channel for terrorist groups to spread its violent extremist views.
"We will continue to comprehensively and precisely implement the 'one country, two systems' principle, handle affairs in line with the Constitution and the Basic Law of the HKSAR, and further promote the overall development of Hong Kong," Xi said.
"The Belt and Road Initiative has offered a timely and convenient framework for SCO members to facilitate regional inter-connectivity and achieve free flows of goods, capital, service and technology in the end," he noted.
