(KGTV) - The scared whimpers of a little dog which had been missing from his Eastlake home for days led to a courageous rescue by a Chula Vista firefighter Thursday morning.The 30-pound dog, Sammy, disappeared from his home in Eastlake Trails Monday, according to Chula Vista Fire Department officials.Early Thursday morning, Sammy’s family noticed sounds coming from a drainage pipe near their home on Secret Canyon Place.Family members called the fire department which responded, along with Chula Vista Public Works crews and Chula Vista Police, to find the dog in an 18-inch drainage pipe underground.Firefighter Jed Burt went down a manhole and crawled through the drainage pipe, which was roughly the size of his helmet, to reach Sammy.When the dog refused to come out on his own, Burt pushed the dog through the pipe to another manhole nearby.Video posted on the IAFF Local 2180 Chula Vista Firefighters union Instagram account shows the moment Sammy reached the surface.Sammy was reunited with his family and suffered no apparent injuries.10News is working to bring you developments in this story. 1137

(KGTV) -- Chula Vista Police are searching for a suspect following a deadly stabbing in Chula Vista in mid-July.According to police, the stabbing happened on July 18 around 10:17 p.m. on the 200 block of Rancho Drive.Officers were called to the scene after receiving a report of a stabbing in the area. When police arrived, they found the victim, 23-year-old Ariel Burquez, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.Police later determined that the victim and suspect, Raymond Lynde, 28, had an argument before Lynde reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Burquez several times.Chula Vista Police are currently trying to locate Lynde, who is on parole for an unrelated offense, police say.“A parole violation warrant has been issued for the murder of Burquez and Lynde should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said.Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477 or CVPD at 619-691-5151. 990

(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested in the shooting death of a 24-year-old man in Chula Vista, police announced Tuesday.On May 15, Chula Vista police were called to the 200 block of G Street in response to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon officers’ arrival, Fredrick Wood was found on the ground with gunshot wounds.Wood was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.Through their investigation, police learned Wood was “shot inside a nearby residence belonging to Enrique Delgado. The victim then ran into the street after being shot, where he collapsed.”Police said Delgado was nowhere to be found.According to police, investigators tracked down Delgado on June 11 at a motorhome in San Diego. Police said Delgado “admitted to shooting Mr. Wood during a dispute, refused to surrender and stated he was armed with a firearm.”A SWAT team was called to the scene as Delgado barricaded himself in the motorhome. He eventually surrendered without incident.Police reported “several firearms and a large quantity of narcotics were also located inside Delgado’s motorhome at the time of arrest.”Delgado was booked into jail and faces charges of murder, possession of narcotics for sale, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, illegal possession of an assault weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm and having a concealed weapon in a vehicle. 1468

(KGTV) - A South Bay family is mourning the loss of a beloved grandfather after a long battle with COVID-19.Salvador Munoz first started feeling sick in early August, developing a cough and fever, and then testing positive for COVID-19. About 10 days later, an ambulance rushed him to a hospital."He became disoriented, tired and couldn't get out of bed. When he talked to the paramedics, he couldn't really speak because he was short on his breath," said daughter-in-law Venessa Munoz.Venessa and his wife Bertha say he was admitted, and a week later, placed on a ventilator."He had complications and then would get better again. Just an emotional roller coaster for everybody," said Venessa.Salvador developed complications with his kidneys and then his heart. After 45 days in the ICU, Salvador Munoz, a father of five, and grandfather of seven, passed away at the age of 68."It's just so hard, so hard. I am relieved to know he is not suffering," said Bertha.Loved ones say Salvador, who owned his own cleaning business, was energetic, funny and joyful."Always the first one dancing. He lived to put smiles on everybody's faces," said Venessa.Bertha tell us she was with Salvador for more than 50 years and never spent a day apart."He was always a loving, caring, respectful man ... He's an angel," said BerthaBertha isn't sure how he contracted the virus. They rarely went out and wore masks."This is a serious thing, so take of yourself. (KGTV) - A Chula Vista man is recovering after a painful encounter with a rattlesnake sent him to a hospital for several days.It happened in a quiet Eastlake neighborhood near a canyon. A week ago, along White Pine Ct., just before. 9 p.m., Lino Ayon was visiting a neighbor, inside a garage, when the neighbor pressed the remote. The door went up."As I stepped out, I felt like a pinch in my ankle area. Then I heard a rattle and by the time I said, 'Oh, that's a snake,' it bit me again," said Ayon.His neighbor tracked it down and killed it: a 3-and-a-half-foot rattlesnake. Meanwhile, Ayon quickly started feel the effects of the bites."My body started getting numb, my face and my chin," said Ayon.His left ankle -- where he had been bitten twice -- started to swell with pain. His speech was slurred."In my mind I knew what I wanted to say, but it wasn't coming out right," said Ayon.He was brought to the ER, eventually receiving two doses of antivenin. He was released from the hospital two days later."Very scary, never in a million years did I think I was going to be bitten by a snake," said Ayon.While rattlesnake bites for humans are fairly rare, experts say be on the lookout this time of year.
