BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has urged more efforts to maintain steady and rapid economic growth and accelerate the transformation of the economic development pattern over the next five years.Li made the remarks Wednesday at a seminar on goals and policies of China's key 12th Five-year (2011-2015) Plan, according to a statement by the State Council, or China's Cabinet, on Thursday.At the seminar, the State Council solicited advice from senior officials of Tianjin Municipality, Jilin, Jiangsu, Henan, Yunnan and Gansu provinces, on the draft of the guidelines of the five-year plan.After listening to suggestions from provincial-level officials, Vice Premier Li said it is imperative for local governments to accelerate the transformation of the economic development pattern, while maintaining steady and rapid economic growth in the long term to benefit all Chinese people.As for the work next year, Li said local governments should more actively and prudently handle the relationship between keeping steady and rapid economic development, restructuring the economy and managing inflation expectations."More efforts should be provided to stabilize prices next year," he told the seminar.When planning goals and strategies for the development over the next five years, Li said, major indicators, such as the economic growth rates, should be defined "reasonably" and binding targets should be emphasized.Over the next five years, China will open wider to the outside world, expand its domestic consumption, push the reform of the income distribution system, create more jobs and improve its basic public service and social security system, he said.Li noted that local governments should work hard to allow residents' income growth to keep pace with the economic growth rate, and assure that laborers' wage hikes reflect productivity increases.

BEIJING, Dec. 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks weakened Monday after the nation's central bank hiked rates on Saturday and amid speculation further monetary policy tightening to combat inflation is in the offing.The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.9 percent, or 53.76 points, to finish at 2,781.4, following the central bank's decision to raise the benchmark one-year lending and deposit interests rate by 0.25 percentage points, its second rate hike in just over two months.The Shenzhen Component Index fell 2.02 percent, or 253.66 points, to end at 12,303.19 points.Combined turnover increased to 224.44 billion yuan (33.85 billion U.S. dollars) from 185.28 billion yuan the previous trading day.An investor watches a screen at a stock trading hall in Shanghai, Dec. 27, 2010. BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has ordered a fresh crackdown on the infringement of well-known foreign and domestic brands' intellectual property rights (IPRs).Greater efforts must be made to fight the production and sale of pirated books, audio, video, software, medicine, food and agricultural products, Liu Jinguo, deputy minister of public security, said at a meeting in Beijing Friday, according to a statement posted on the MPS website Saturday.The special nationwide campaign started Friday and will last until March 2011.At a Nov. 5 meeting, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao urged government agencies to target the root causes of IPRs infringement while strengthening IPRs protection.In a statement Xinhua received Friday, the MPS said Chinese police in a special March 2006 operation uncovered 3,775 cases of IPRs infringement.In a July 2007 campaign conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Intelligence, Chinese police arrested over 20 in connection to the cases.

ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Seven company executives were suspended from duty or removed Monday after 26 miners were killed in a gas explosion in an illegally operated coal mine on Dec. 7 in central China's Henan Province, according to the group's spokesman.Forty-six miners were working underground when the blast occurred at the Juyuan Coal Mine, owned by Juyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. in Mianchi County, Sanmenxia City. The company is being merged into Yi Ma Coal Industry Group.Deputy general manager, Li Jianxin, of Yi Ma Coal Industry Group, the mine's prospective parent company, was suspended from duty pending investigation. Li was in charge of the group's merger and regrouping, said the group's spokesman.Manager Yao Nianshou and four deputy managers who were sent by the group to Juyuan Coal Industry Co., Ltd. were also removed, he said.The spokesman said the decisions to discipline the executives have been approved by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Henan Province. The final punishment for those responsible for the incident will be decided based on the findings of the on-going investigation.Managers of the Juyuan Coal Mine did not obtain a license to excavate coal from the site in Mianchi County, where the explosion occurred. Mine managers also ignored an order to halt production, as the mine's operations are being reorganized as part of the merger.The mine had been known as the Suzhuang Coal Mine and was later re-launched as Juyuan when it was merged into the large state-owned conglomerate Yi Ma Coal Industry Group.Police said they arrested the owner of the mine, Suo Yonggang, who allegedly hid the bodies of the victims to lessen the casualty count. Suo fled the mine following the blast.Mine managers first reported that only 20 miners were trapped when the blast occurred. Provincial work safety authorities updated the figure to 33 and then to 46 as investigators found more bodies in the mine. Only 20 miners survived.
