BEIJING, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Tuesday urged Taiwan to work together with the mainland based on four principles: "Building mutual trust, laying aside disputes, seeking consensus and shelving differences, and creating a win-win situation."    He called for substantial efforts for the welfare of Chinese compatriots on both sides, to seek peace across the Taiwan Strait and create a new situation for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.     Hu made these remarks in a meeting with Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang Party (KMT), his wife and his delegation, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in central Beijing. He thanked Lien for bringing to the mainland the works of a well-known Taiwan sculptor as a gift to the Beijing Olympics.     Hu recalled his first meeting with Lien three years ago, which was the first official summit between the CPC and the KMT in the past 6 decades.     At that first summit, the two parties publicized common aspirations for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, which laid the political foundation for cooperation, he noted.     He called for resuming cross-strait talks on the basis of the "1992 Consensus" as early as possible, to resolve problems in a practical manner, make substantial efforts for the welfare of Chinese compatriots on both sides and seek peace across the strait.     "The Chinese nationality will realize a bright future in its great rejuvenation, a common glory for the compatriots of the two banks," He said. The compatriots share the same fate and belong to the same big family of the Chinese nationality, Hu said.     He expressed the hope that compatriots on both banks will further join hands to create a new environment for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nationality, and promote the lofty cause of peace and development of mankind.     In his remarks, Lien agreed with Hu. He said the principles adopted at the KMT-CPC summit in 2005 were "of epoch-making importance" and have since been the guidelines for the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.     The welfare of the compatriots on both banks must be built upon the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, Lien said. He called for joint efforts to increase exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economics, culture, education and social security.     Also present were senior mainland officials including Wang Qishan, Ling Jihua, Chen Yunlin and Chen Shiju.

According to the "common aspiration and prospects for cross-strait peace and development," Taiwan compatriots' participation in international activities would be discussed with priority given to participation of the World Health Organization's (WHO) activities after the cross-strait consultations were resumed.     "I believe that if two sides can work together and create conditions, solutions will be found to these issues through consultation," Hu said.     He stressed that on developing cross-strait relations, the CPC has always adhered to the principal of safeguarding the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and safeguarding the common interests of all Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots.     "We care for, respect and believe in the Taiwan compatriots. As to the misunderstanding and suspicion harbored by some Taiwan compatriots concerning the cross-strait relations, we will not only give our understandings but also take active measures to dissolve them," he said.     To realize the peaceful development of cross-strait relations, the more people unite with us, the better, he said.     Wu said the two parties needed to continue strengthening exchanges and dialogues in the future, hold economic, trade and cultural forums or peace forums at appropriate time, and continue to have inter-party exchanges at the grassroot level, so as to make the two parties' exchange platform more solid and impact more far-reaching.     After the cross-strait consultations resume, Wu said, the regularized consultations between the two sides and the two parties' exchange platform should play roles at the same time.     Wu expressed hope that the two parties would make joint efforts and together with the compatriots from across the strait, create peace, promote stability and development and share prosperity.     Hu stressed that under the new circumstances, the two parties should expand exchanges and bring the role of exchange platform between the two parties into full play.     He expressed hope that the two parties can bear in mind the welfare of compatriots across the strait and the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, unswervingly promote the peaceful development of the cross-strait relations, and make joint efforts to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.     Also present at the meeting were senior mainland officials including Wang Qishan, Ling Jihua, Wang Huning, Dai Bingguo and Chen Yunlin.     Hu hosted a banquet for Wu and his delegation after the meeting.

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Prices of real estate in 70 major Chinese cities rose 7.0 percent in July on the same month of last year, 1.2 percentage points lower than the June level, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the National Bureau of Statistics on Tuesday.     The NDRC, the country's top economic planning organ, said the growth rate had slowed down for six consecutive months.     The price rise was 11.3 percent in January, 10.9 percent in February, 10.7 percent in March, 10.1 percent in April, 9.2 percent in May and 8.2 in June. BEIJING, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and his Australian counterpart Kevin Rudd, in a phone conversation on Monday, exchanged opinions on relations between their two countries as well as the international financial crisis and climate change.     Wen spoke positively of the development of the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Australia.     He said China is willing to work with Australia to intensify coordination and cooperation, and meet the complicated global challenges in a bid to promote harmonious and sustainable development of the world.     The Australian prime minister lauded China's position and active role in handling the international financial crisis.     Rudd said the international community should strengthen cooperation to establish and improve the mechanism to guarantee the transparency and consistency of the international financial system.     Australia would like to work with China to reinforce exchanges and cooperation in international finance and in multilateral and bilateral fields, he added.
