Researchers are working to find out who is buried in the 604 unmarked graves that were found on Clemson University's campus.In a press release, university officials said crews were surveying the Woodland Cemetery, located near Memorial Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina, when the unmarked graves were found.Using ground-penetrating radar, crews initially found 200 unmarked graves, but as the project went on, crews found 404 more graves."The number of graves coupled with the locations suggests the possibility that some may pre-date the period when the land was part of Calhoun's Fort Hill Plantation from 1830 to 1865," university officials stated in the press release. "Many of the graves are thought to be those of enslaved people who worked at the plantation and later as sharecroppers and Black laborers, including convicted individuals involved in the construction of Clemson College from 1890 to 1915."According to Greenville News, University Historian Paul Anderson and a research assistant will comb through census data and archives to find out who is buried there and when they were placed there.Former Clemson trustee Jim Bostic told the Greenville News that a large memorial would be put in place to honor those in the unmarked graves. 1258

President Trump has signed the Music Modernization Act into law, a bill that will bring sweeping changes to the way music is licensed and songwriters are paid.Supporters say the Music Modernization Act, championed by Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tennessee), will ensure that songwriters get paid fairly for their work in the streaming age.  A key aspect of the legislation is the creation of a new independent entity that will license songs to companies that play music online. The group will then pay songwriters, while digital streaming services, like Spotify or Pandora, can ask for a blanket license. This is the first overhaul to music copyright law in decades. The law will also make sure artists who made music prior to 1972 are paid.Recording artists didn't have any copyright rights in their works until 1972. Kanye West, Kid Rock and John Rich are among artists expected to attend Thursday's ceremony at the White House.   965

President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign filed a petition with the U.S. Supreme Court asking the highest court in the country to step in and overturn several decisions the Pennsylvania Supreme Court made regarding the 2020 election.The cert petition and motion to expedite were filed Sunday and asks the U.S. Supreme Court to fast-track the case because of the upcoming January 6 date when Congress will receive the Electoral College results ahead of the inauguration on January 20. According to a statement on the Trump campaign website, they are asking for the U.S. Supreme Court to "order responses by December 23 and a reply by December 24." The court challenge doesn’t focus on allegations of voter fraud, like previous efforts by the campaign, instead it challenges three decisions in particular by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court regarding mail ballots. Researchers say a whale found in the Arctic could be susceptible to COVID-19 since it's "particularly susceptible to infection."Researchers headed up by Martin Nweeia from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, will observe wildlife, mainly the narwhal whale is known for its vast nine-foot tusk."Scientists have a difficult enough time keeping up with the human spread of this virus, so we are eager to monitor an animal that is particularly susceptible to infection," Nweeia said in a press release.Nweeia has studied the narwhal for over 20 years, so he and his team know that animals can get the deadly virus."If this coronavirus were to gain a foothold in wildlife, there could be potential cascading impacts for ecosystems worldwide and the communities that rely on them," Nweeia added.Additionally, Nweeia and his team have already been observing the Ugandan lowland gorilla see its susceptibility because if it ever came into contact with one organism with COVID-19, it could wipe out the entire species, Nweeia said. 1072

RAMONA (KGTV)- Myrtle the coyote is recovering at The Fund for the Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona, after the Rancho Bernardo neighborhood came together to help.Katie Ryan has been watching Myrtle the coyote for years, and sounded the alarm when she first saw the new mother ensnared in a pipe. Katie guessed Myrtle was trying to capture a small animal that hid in the pipe and she got stuck. It took five weeks of constant phone calls, prayers and sleepless nights looking after Myrtle before she could get a trapper to catch the elusive coyote."I can't even describe I was crying and laughing all at the same time," Ryan said, her smile wide. She enlisted neighbors to block off the area, after a failed attempt Monday night due to a man trying to approach Myrtle and scaring her off.Neighbors said they guarded the neighborhood for hours Tuesday evening, going home with no hope. Then, a few minutes later, Myrtle followed a trail of rotisserie chicken and was caught in a trap around 8:30p.m.The Fund for the Animals Wildlife Center picked up the coyote that night and sent this statement. 1118
