SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego welcomed several adorable birds to the flock this week, well, "flamboyance."The park welcomed seven Caribbean flamingo chicks to the mix, ranging from 2 to 11 days old, recently.The birds have entered breeding season, SeaWorld says, and cute gray, fluffy newborns will be available to see at Flamingo Cove.RELATED: SeaWorld offers Inside Look as additional experienceFlamingo eggs incubate for about 28 days before hatching, according to the park. Both the male and female take turns sitting on top of the nest to incubate the egg.Once hatched, both parents feed the chick by producing a secretion called, "crop milk."While flamingos are known for the bright pink feathers, they are born with gray or white down feathers. The pink feathers' color occurs from the carotenoid proteins in their diet. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s Planning Commission met Thursday to discuss potential new rules that would help regulate the short-term rental industry in the city.A plan proposed by City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell was first introduced in July after a compromise was reached among members of the hospitality industry and short-term rental companies.The plan would implement tighter restrictions such as capping the number of short-term rental permits that are granted. There are also plans to require a two-night minimum stay to avoid one-night stays that are often connected to big parties that concerns residents.A representative for Campbell says implementing tighter regulations will help law enforcement address any problems that may arise.The proposed plan creates penalties and fines for those who violate the city’s “good neighbor” policy.More than 500 people signed up to voice their opinion about this proposal during Thursday’s virtual meeting.One caller said, “We depend on this for our livelihood, especially since the pandemic has taken a toll on us already. Without having the ability to host, many of us will be forced to leave our homes.”Another caller added, “This has been an issue for years. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego State University has instituted new protocols to keep the coronavirus from spreading on campus.Dr. Luke Wood, Vice President of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity, said they hired security to patrol the campus from Thursday through Sunday after hours, document policy violations, and send reports to staff who handle disciplinary action."There are real consequences now of our COVID-19 policies, and that can range from a warning, to suspension to even in extreme cases, expulsion," Wood said.He said they also have a wellness ambassador program they hope to expand to 50 personnel, "so that when students come on campus physically they are being greeted and welcomed to the campus. They're reminded of our policies around wearing face-masks, around social distancing."Wood said he wants to make sure SDSU doesn't join the growing list of colleges with outbreaks."We're doing everything that's within our power to make sure that we don't follow in others' footsteps," he said. "It's demonstrating we take this very seriously."Only a third of students (about 2,600) are living on campus this year, according to Wood. In-person classes have been cut from thousands to 202.
