NEW YORK — In a blistering rebuke of President Donald Trump, Gov. Andrew Cuomo called the sitting president the worst "in history" from a New York vantage point after a report emerged that the president signed a memo ordering the federal government to begin the process of defunding New York City and other cities where protests have broken out and crime has increased.Federal agencies were told by the administration to send reports to the White House Office of Management and Budget to details funds that can be redirected away from New York City; Washington, D.C.; Seattle and Portland, the New York Post reported."President Trump has actively sought to punish NYC since day one," Cuomo said in a tweet. NEW YORK CITY — Police are looking for a man they say assaulted a New York City bus driver who asked him to put on a mask before boarding the Manhattan bus.According to the NYPD, the unidentified man attempted to get on the northbound New York City Transit Authority (MTA) bus near Madison Avenue and East 29th Street around 2:30 a.m. Monday without a mandatory face covering.The bus driver, 62, stopped the man, telling him he had to put on a mask to ride the bus, police said.According to authorities, the man punched the bus driver in the face before fleeing the bus in an unknown direction.The victim suffered pain and swelling and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said.Face coverings or masks are required on all MTA buses, subways and trains as the city continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.The NYPD has released the above surveillance images of the man for whom they're searching.This story was originally published by Mark Sundstrom and Rebecca Solomon on WPIX in New York City. 1022

Negotiations have slowly progressed in recent days as members of Congress and the White House try to iron out details in the next round of economic stimulus amid the coronavirus.One of the key issues where the sides have not found much agreement is on expanding food stamp benefits, which is a priority for Democrats. When the Senate GOP released their latest stimulus proposal last week, it did not include expanded food assistance.While generally Republicans have not been in favor of expanding food stamp benefits, one prominent Republican said on Tuesday he is supportive of increasing food assistance.Pat Roberts, R-Kan., told the Associated Press that he has raised the issue with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. The Kansas Republican is the chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee.“They are taking a look at it and I think we can get a positive result,” Roberts told The Associated Press. “If we can get a breakthrough on that, it could lead to some other stuff.”In May, Democrats approved a .5 billion stimulus plan of their own, which both the White House and Senate Republicans said they would not consider for a myriad of reasons.The House Democrats’ bill would have increased SNAP benefits by 15% through September 30, 2021, and would have provided an extra billion in food assistance through the pandemic.Feeding America, which is a consortium of the nation’s food banks, criticized the Senate Republicans’ proposal that was released last week, which did not include increased funding for food assistance. NEW YORK — A Manhattan prosecutor trying to get President Donald Trump’s tax returns told a judge that he was justified in demanding them, citing public reports of “extensive and protracted criminal conduct at the Trump Organization.” Trump’s lawyers last month said the grand jury subpoena for the tax returns was issued in bad faith and amounted to harassment of the president.
