BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- China will never surrender to external pressure and has the resolve and capability to defend its legitimate rights and interests, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said here Tuesday.

"China has worked hard to build the capacity of its peacekeeping standby force, and it's ready to send more engineering, transport and medical capacity to serve peacekeeping operations at the request of the UN," he said.

Conflict, however, is still inevitable. "Therefore, we set up a consulting committee consisting of representatives from all seven ethnic groups, seniors with a good reputation as well as leaders of our community, to solve disputes and clear up misunderstandings," He added.

"Our two sides need to work together to promote an open world economy and address long-running issues and new challenges confronting the human society to inject stability into an increasingly uncertain world," he said.

"The share that goes to enterprises in the national income distribution needs to be increased to boost market vitality. This will help keep employment stable, expand tax sources and make public finance sustainable," Li said.
