HUA HIN, Thailand, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- With a delighted and relieved smile, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao waved to the crowd on Sunday at the airport in Thai resort Hua Hin before he left for home.     The premier has successfully finished his visit to Thailand after attending a series of summit meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the past three days. China's Premier Wen Jiabao (L Front) arrives in Hua Hin, Thailand, Oct. 23, 2009 for a series of meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian NationsThis is Wen's second visit to this country in 2009. Half a year ago, despite extreme political turbulence in Thailand, Wen decided to attend the ASEAN summits in Pattaya in a bid to show China's sincerity to the world.     During the 22 hours in Pattaya, Wen used all possible chances to hold talks with the leaders at the summits and meet journalists, transmitting China's determination and confidence in overcoming the global financial crisis and pushing forward East Asia cooperation. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (C) meets the press in Hua Hin, Thailand, Oct. 23, 2009. Wen had been deeply convinced that enhancing cooperation and working together to overcome the difficulties of the time were in accord with the fundamental interests of East Asian peoples.     Once we had sincerity, determination and confidence, the hope would not be dashed, the premier said.     During the following six months, the Chinese government decided to set up a 10-billion-U.S. dollar China-ASEAN investment cooperation fund, establish the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, and provide financial support to ASEAN countries. Trade between China and ASEAN has entered into the period of recovery since September. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has a working lunch with leaders attending the fourth East Asia Summit in the southern Thai resort town of Hua Hin, Oct. 25, 2009At the Oct. 23-25 Hua Hin summits, Wen brought not only good news of China's economic rebound, but also a six-point proposal for strengthening cooperation between China and ASEAN, which included building an economic cooperation zone and boosting cooperation in such sectors as investment, agriculture, intellectual property rights, infrastructure construction and culture.     Wen emphasized that challenge could turn into opportunity, cooperation could bring strength, while innovation could contribute to success.     The blueprint of East Asia cooperation would be better, he said, adding that the hope is just like "an imperishable lighthouse," which leads the East Asian people amid ups and downs.     Mutual respect and trust constitute the foundation for cooperation. Wen held a series of meetings with leaders of other countries during the ASEAN summits, with his meetings with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd having been widely followed. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) meets with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Hua Hin, Thailand, on Oct. 24, 2009. Wen arrived here on Friday evening to attend the summit meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with its partnersWen and Singh have confirmed their strong willingness for common and harmonious development between the two sides during their talks.     Maintaining good-neighborly and friendly relations as well as mutual beneficial cooperation between the two big developing countries would not only benefit both peoples, but also bring hope for Asia and the world, the two leaders said. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (R) meets with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in Hua Hin, Thailand, October 24, 2009. Wen Jiabao and Kevin Rudd are here to attend a series of leaders' meeting related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEANAlthough China and Australia have different political systems, levels of economic development, historical and cultural background, common interests had led to an increasingly close relationship between the two Asia-Pacific powers.     The talks between Wen and Rudd had shown that there would be no unconquerable difficulties as long as the two sides treated each other with mutual respect and pursued win-win cooperation.     Establishing an East Asian Community is the common desire of the people in the region, though the path toward realizing the goal will be long and bumpy.     China will sincerely, firmly, actively and effectively engage in pushing forward the integration of East Asia.     Half a century ago, together with India and Myanmar, China proposed the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, advocating for mutual respect, equal treatment and friendly cooperation among all nations. In the early 1990s, China initiated the cooperation between ASEAN and itself. In the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis, the regional cooperation in East Asia began to pick up in pace.     Wen firmly expressed at the Hua Hin summits that China would work with East Asian nations toward realizing the long-term goal of establishing the East Asian Community.     The clouds of the international financial crisis remain overhead. However, consensus and hopes are in the making among the members of East Asia, shining as an ever-bright lighthouse and leading the way to a more promising future.

Supporting public utilities such as medical treatment, drinking water and communication are also steadily in progress, the report said.     Five permanent structures, namely China Pavilion, Performance Center, Expo Center Theme Pavilion and Expo Boulevard will be completed by the year ends. Twenty-six out of the 42 self-built pavilions of foreign participants have completed their structure and 37 out of 42 rented pavilions were accomplished. All the 11 joint pavilions have been completed by now.     By Dec. 1, over 3,400 rooms in apartments in the Expo Village and service apartments in the surrounding areas will be put into service, and the number will reach 6,700 at the end of the year and 7,100 by the end of next March, the report said.     "As major parts of the construction work has finished, we have shifted our focus to operation, such as service, exhibits arrangement and further design and organization of events and forums," Yang told Xinhua.     During the grand cultural events, about 20,000 sessions of various performances will be staged. To date, 200 countries and international organizations have submitted application for National Day and Honor Day events, totaling 633 performances.     The Expo is not only a carnival for China, but also a showcase for worldwide extraordinary culture and innovations. BEIJING, Dec. 26 -- European fashion retailers are accelerating business expansion in China thanks to the nation's increasing number of fashion-conscious consumers.     Two companies that opened new outlets in China at a rapid pace this year included Sweden's H&M and Spain's Zara, both retailers of clothing and accessories for adults and youth.     H&M is ending this year with a total of 13 new stores, raising the company portfolio in China to 27 outlets, while Zara, opened 33 new stores in China, winding down the year with 60 in total.     "In China, new store openings have more than doubled due to strong domestic consumption, which has not been affected by the global financial downturn," said Wu Shuang, public relations manager of H&M China. Globally, H&M store openings are up between 10 percent and 15 percent in 2009, said Wu.     "More H&M stores will be set up in China next year, especially in the second-tier cities," he said.     H&M, Europe's second largest fast-fashion retailer, entered the Hong Kong and Shanghai markets in 2007 and later expanded its business to second-tier cities like Hangzhou and Ningbo of Zhejiang province.     Back in August, H&M sales in Spain, the US and France were down 11 percent over July sales, the fourth consecutive monthly drop.     In 2008, average sales revenue at H&M stores in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong was up 23 percent to 59 million yuan, while globally average store sales was 48 million yuan.     "We are expecting favorable sales volume in China this year," said Wu, while declining to elaborate further.     Strong sales numbers were also recorded at Zara, the leading fast-fashion retailer in Europe. "The Chinese market is attractive with its soaring consumer spending power," a Zara promotion executive said on condition of anonymity. Chinese consumers can expect to see more Zara 'fast fashion' stores in the future," he said.     Fast fashion is a term used to describe fashion trends that are manufactured quickly in smaller batches to keep inventories down and allow mainstream consumers to take advantage of current clothing styles at lower prices. This type of quick manufacturing methodology is preferred by large retailers like H&M, Forever 21 and Zara, according to online apparel industry directory, Apparel Search.     This access to the latest clothing styles is popular with white-collar consumers in China.     "I have been waiting for 30 minutes to try on several pieces of clothing, but the wait doesn't matter. I love to get everything here, and the prices are acceptable," said Liu Dan, a woman in her 20s shopping at one of Zara's Beijing stores. Liu, who works in the public relations department at an international company, said she is also a regular patron of H&M in Beijing. Both H&M and Zara stores are often crowded with local consumers, especially on the weekends.

BEIJING, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday called for more peace efforts from Israel and Palestinians toward a two-state solution.     Wen made the appeal on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.     In a congratulatory message to this year's UN activities to observe this day, Wen said the Palestinian issue is at the core of the Middle East issue.     "China firmly supports the demands of Palestinian people for the restoration of their legitimate national rights and for the establishment of an independent state," said Wen.     The Middle East Peace process is at a crossroads. China hopes that Israel and Palestinians could guide the peace talks toward a desired direction and work for a two-state solution in accordance with relevant UN resolutions and the "land-for-peace" principle, he said.     An early resolution of the Palestinian issue in a comprehensive, just and permanent manner is not only beneficial to the Palestinian people, but also conducive to peace and stability in the whole Middle East region, said Wen.     As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, said Wen, China remains committed to the Mideast peace process and is willing to play a constructive role, together with the international community, in promoting peace, stability and development in the Middle East.
