Sunbeam Products has issued a voluntary recall of more than 940,000 Crock-Pot multi-cookers in the United States and Canada due to a burn hazard.According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recall notice, the Crock-Pot? 6-Quart Express Crock Multi-Cookers, model number SCCPPC600-V1, were sold at Walmart, Target, Amazon, and other online and nationwide retailers from July 2017 through Nov. 2020 for between to 0.According to the website, the recalled product can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked, which can "cause the lid to suddenly detach while the product is in use, posing burn risks to consumers from hot food and liquids ejected from the product."Sunbeam, which owns Crock-Pot, recalled 914,430 affected products in the U.S., along with another 28,330 cookers in Canada, after receiving "119 reports of lid detachment, resulting in 99 burn injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns," the CPSC stated.Sunbeam manufactured the multi-cookers between July 1, 2017, and October 1, 2018.The notice says date codes K196JN through K365JN and L001JN through L273JN are engraved on a prong of the electrical plugs and the bottom of the base.Consumers should stop using the recalled product in pressure cooker mode immediately. Still, they can continue to use it for slow cooking and sautéing and contact Crock-Pot to receive a free lid replacement."Consumers who continue using the multi-cooker in pressure cooker mode while waiting for the replacement lid should be certain the lid is securely turned to the fully locked position by aligning the arrow on the lid with the lock symbol on the base," the notice said. 1680

Christopher Vialva, 40, was pronounced dead shortly before 7 p.m. EDT Thursday. He was convicted and sentenced to death in the slaying of a religious couple visiting Texas from Iowa when Vialva was 19. Vialva was the seventh federal execution since July and the second this week. Five of the first six were white, a move critics argue was a political calculation to avoid uproar. The sixth was Navajo. The American Automobile Association (AAA) expects at least 34 million less people will travel this holiday season than last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Public health concerns and travel guidance are influencing decisions not to travel during a time when people often take vacations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging Americans not to go anywhere for the holidays this year, warning that it could increase your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.Still, AAA projects as many as 84.5 million Americans may travel from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, a decline of at least 29%.As for methods of travel, AAA says most Americans who do go somewhere in the next few weeks will do so by car, with road trips accounting for 96% of holiday travel. Up to 81 million Americans will travel by car, a decline of at least 25% compared to last year, according to AAA.As has been the trend this year, far less people will fly this holiday season. AAA says as many as 2.9 million travelers are expected to book flights for the holidays, a decline of nearly 60% from 2019.For those who do choose to travel despite the risks, it’s important to take steps that can help keep yourself and others safe.AAA says to plan ahead by checking with state and local officials along your route and at your destination to learn about local guidance and any restrictions in place. STORY - One of the two girls who was molested by a La Jolla realtor faced the child predator at his sentencing Friday. Donald Hickey received a 25-years-to-life term as part of his plea deal in five felonies. In July, Hickey admitted to lewd and lascivious acts with a child and possession of child pornography. Prosecutors said the molestations occurred between 2009 and 2012. Hickey was caught thanks to a cyber tip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Hickey apologized to his victims in court in August, saying “I’m sorry for everything that's happened. I take responsibility for it and I hope they do heal from it.'' ``No teenager should be in a situation where they sit down and think about what they're going to say to a pedophile,'' one of the girls said after Hickey pleaded guilty. ``No parent should have to decide whether or not to tell their child that they have been assaulted.
