Neither daughter is now enrolled at USC.Prosecutors wrote in a sentencing memorandum that the couple "involved both their daughters in the fraud, directing them to pose in staged photographs for use in fake athletic profiles and instructing one daughter how to conceal the scheme from her high school counselor."According to the memo, evidence shows that Giannulli, a 57-year-old fashion designer, was the more active participant.More than 50 people have been charged in the probe, which investigators dubbed operation "Varsity Blues." Of 38 parents charged, 26 have pleaded guilty and received sentences ranging from the two weeks given to Huffman to a nine-month term imposed on Doug Hodge, former head of a Newport Beach-based bond management firm.Loughlin, 56, was sentenced in August along with her husband, who was handed a five-month term. LONDON (AP) — An artist has erected a statue of a Black Lives Matter protester atop the plinth in the English city of Bristol once occupied by the toppled statue of a slave trader. Marc Quinn created the likeness of Jen Reid, a protester photographed standing on the plinth after demonstrators pulled down the statue of Edward Colston and dumped it in Bristol's harbor on June 7. The statue, titled "A Surge of Power (Jen Reid)" was erected before dawn on Wednesday without approval from city officials. Colston was a 17th-century trader who made a fortune transporting enslaved Africans across the Atlantic to the Americas. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Robert Forster, the handsome and omnipresent character actor who got a career resurgence and Oscar nomination for playing bail bondsman Max Cherry in "Jackie Brown," died Friday. He was 78.Publicist Kathie Berlin said Forster died of brain cancer following a brief illness. He was at home in Los Angeles, surrounded by family, including his four children and partner Denise Grayson.Condolences poured in Friday night on social media.Bryan Cranston called Forster a "lovely man and a consummate actor" in a tweet. The two met on the 1980 film "Alligator" and then worked together again on the television show "Breaking Bad" and its spinoff film, "El Camino," which launched Friday on Netflix."I never forgot how kind and generous he was to a young kid just starting out in Hollywood," Cranston wrote.His "Jackie Brown" co-star Samuel L. Mars is traveling close to the earth right now, as it does every two years according to its orbit around the sun.Mars will be visible from dusk until dawn in the southern sky. Being “close” is relative, at its closest, Mars will still be 33.9 million miles away, according to NASA. Earth and Mars have elliptical, or egg-shaped, paths around the sun; meaning the distance between the two planets widens and narrows as they orbit.However, even being millions of miles away, the “close approach,” as NASA calls it, will allow an opportunity to see Mars without a telescope. Mars was at its brightest on October 6, and is slowly getting farther away.Mars will appear very bright in the sky during this time as it’s close to earth. NASA says it is more like the size of a star than the moon, a very bright star.If clouds or other distractions block the view of Mars this week, there will be another chance to see the red planet in December 2022.
