BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- China has decided to impose anti-dumping tariffs on pure terephthalic acid imported from Thailand and the Republic of Korea (ROK), the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Thursday.The five-year tariffs, ranging from 2 percent to 20.1 percent, took effect Thursday, the ministry said in a notice posted on its website.The MOC said the dumping of terephthalic acid on the China market had caused substantial damage to the domestic industry.The ministry started an anti-dumping probe into imports of the acid on Feb. 12, 2009.On Feb. 12, 2010, the MOC announced the the preliminary ruling of the investigation, which required importers of pure terephthalic acid from Thailand and the ROK to put down a security deposit.Terephthalic acid is an organic compound used in polyester coatings and resins.
URUMQI, June 28 (Xinhua) -- China sent two chartered aircraft carrying 26 tonnes of new relief materials to Kyrgyzstan early Monday to help refugees who suffered shortages of supplies after violent ethnic clashes this month.The two China Southern Airlines Boeing 757 cargo aircraft brought the materials to the southern Kyrgyzstan city of Osh from Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a spokesman with the carrier's Xinjiang Branch said.The aid materials worth 3 million yuan (440,000 U.S. dollars) include rice, oil, biscuits, black tea, milk powder, blankets, clothes, stationary and sanitary materials, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang in a press release."China hopes the aid will help Kyrgyz authorities to resettle the refugees," Qin said.China Southern Airlines, one of the country's leading carriers, has been heavily involved in the evacuation of Chinese nationals and transportation of relief supplies after clashes broke out between Kyrgyz and ethnic Uzbeks in Osh in mid-June.The clashes later spread to the region of Jalalabad, leaving 210 people dead and 2,100 injured.Since June 15, China has sent charter planes to ship altogether 80 tonnes of relief supplies, worth 11 million yuan, to Kyrgyzstan and neighboring Uzbekistan which was flooded with Kyrgyz refugees after the clashes, according to China Southern Airlines.

BEIJING, June 29 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisory body Tuesday started a new seminar to improve the capabilities of 296 national political advisors in advising the government work.During the four-day seminar, the participants, who were from 34 walks of life, will attend lectures and hold panel discussions focusing such topics as how to persisting in and improving the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, as well as the basic requirements for advisors to better perform their duties.Jia Qinglin, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top advisory body in China, met with the participants at the opening ceremony of the seminar.The seminar is the fifth of the kind ever organized by the 11th CPPCC National Committee. Altogether 1,342 CPPCC members have attended the seminars.
