Former Arkansas high school teacher Jessie Lorene Goline, 25, is accused by law enforcement of having sexual relations with four high school students in 2016, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported. Goline was formally charged on Wednesday with one count of first degree sexual assault, according to online court records. The Democrat-Gazette reported that only one of the four students were under 18 at the time of the encounters. Authorities told the Democrat-Gazette that Goline allegedly had sex with two students she had taken to her apartment on the same day.In the affidavit, Goline believed one of the students was 18 but he was not. Three of the male students were from the Marked Tree School District, and one was from the East Poinsett County School District. They told authorities that they received text messages from Goline, and that their conversations became more sexual over time. Authorities learned of the alleged incidents in April when a parent threatened to “do bodily harm to one of their teachers.” That's when one of the parents came forward. Goline, who was released later on Wednesday, faces a judge in October.  1217

Fresh off his victory in the Florida Republican gubernatorial primary, Rep. Ron DeSantis said Wednesday that voters would "monkey this up" if they elected his African-American opponent, Andrew Gillum, to be governor, immediately drawing accusations of racism.The remark provides a controversial beginning to what will be a closely watched general election for the Florida governorship, which pits DeSantis, who has closely aligned himself with President Donald Trump, against Gillum, a progressive backed by Sen. "Resorting to dog whistle politics within hours of winning the GOP nomination shows a desperate candidate who will stoop to new lows in order to court and give voice to fringe elements of society. Floridians want a leader who will bring them together; Ron DeSantis has shown that he would only divide Florida."A spokeswoman for Fox News reached out to CNN early Wednesday afternoon to distance the network from DeSantis' remark, saying, "We do not condone this language and wanted to make our viewers aware that he has since clarified his statement."Stephen Lawson, the communications director for the DeSantis campaign, said he was referring to Gillum's policies in making the remark."Ron DeSantis was obviously talking about Florida not making the wrong decision to embrace the socialist policies that Andrew Gillum espouses. Former MLB players Luis Valbuena and Jose Castillo have been killed in a car crash in Venezuela, according to multiple media reports.  The two were teammates on a winter ball team in Venezuela at the time of the crash on Thursday. Castillo was 37 at the time of his death and finished his career with the Houston Astros. Molson Coors, Brooklyn Brewery and others are reportedly cutting back on the different types of beer they produce, focusing on their most popular drinks, because of the shortage according to CNN.??"Everyone who makes anything that goes into a 12-ounce can is being challenged to some respect," Adam Collins, Molson Coors' spokesperson, told CNN Business.As with the national shortage of coins, the lack of aluminum cans is because of American’s changing habits during the pandemic. More beer, spritzers, seltzers and other drinks in aluminum cans are being sold in stores for home consumption, instead of kegs and larger containers destined for bars and restaurants."The can industry is working 24/7 on meeting the unprecedented demand," Robert Budway, president of the Can Manufacturers Institute, the industry's trade association, told USA Today.Another factor, according to CNN, is the sharp rise in popularity of White Claw and other hard seltzers. Five years since the U.S. Supreme Court made same-sex marriage in this country legal, around 300,000 same-sex couples have wed. The June 26, 2015 ruling added to the day’s significance, which already has a decades-long history in the battle for LGBTQ rights.On June 26, 2003, the highest court in the country overturned a Texas statue making it a crime for two persons of the same sex to engage in certain intimate sexual conduct.In the ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote “The petitioners are entitled to respect for their private lives. The State cannot demean their existence or control their destiny by making their private sexual conduct a crime. Their right to liberty under the Due Process Clause gives them the full right to engage in their conduct without intervention of the government.”Ten years later, on June 26, 2013, the Supreme Court issued their ruling on United States v. Windsor, stating that a key part of the Defense of Marriage Act was unconstitutional.In that ruling, Justice Kennedy wrote, “DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) instructs all federal officials, and indeed all persons with whom same-sex couples interact, including their own children, that their marriage is less worthy than the marriages of others.”In 2013, 12 states and the District of Columbia recognized same-sex marriages. Just two years later, that number was at 37 states and the District of Columbia. Then on June 26, 2015, same-sex marriage became legal across the country in Obergefell v. Hodges.“The Constitution promises liberty to all within its reach, a liberty that includes certain specific rights that allow persons, within a lawful realm, to define and express their identity. The petitioners in these cases seek to find that liberty by marrying someone of the same sex and having their marriages deemed lawful on the same terms and conditions as marriages between persons of the opposite sex,” the ruling states.Articles written at the time of the ruling wondered if June 26 would become a national holiday to mark the significance of the decisions on this day.In 2017, on June 26, the Supreme Court ruled same-sex couples should both be listed on birth certificates in Pavan v Smith.
