DENVER, Colo. -- Passengers' fears over the possible spread of the new coronovirus appear to be the cause of a plane's unscheduled landing. Officials said a group of people became disruptive because a neighboring passenger was coughing and sneezing on Sunday's flight from Eagle County, Colorado, to Newark International Airport. The United Airlines plane diverted to Denver, where police officials told 416
Every year, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS) get together to update what they call the "Doomsday Clock." It's designed to warn the public about how close the world is to destroying itself with dangerous technologies of its own making. It is a metaphor, a reminder of the perils leaders must address if we are to survive on the planet. It was created in 1947. At that point, the greatest danger to humanity came from nuclear weapons — in particular, the United States's and the Soviet Union's nuclear arms race. The BAS considered possible catastrophic disruptions from climate change in its hand-setting deliberations for the first time in 2007.The closer to 'midnight' on the clock, the closer the world is to an apocolypseThe Bulletin's Science and Security Board meets twice a year to discuss world events and reset the clock as necessary. The board is made up of scientists and other experts with deep knowledge of nuclear technology and climate science, who often provide expert advice to governments and international agencies. Duke superstar freshman Zion Williamson surprised no one on Monday by announcing that he will forego college for this summer's NBA Draft. With his announcement, Williamson is expected to be drafted first in this year's draft, no matter which team gets the No. 1 selection. The NBA Draft Lottery will be held next month, and with it, the opportunity to land the most coveted prospect since LeBron James. The New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavs and Phoenix Suns equally have the best chance of landing Williamson at 14 percent. All other teams that did not make this year's NBA Playoffs are also in the lottery for the No. 1 selection. Williamson, who helped lead Duke to a spot in this year's Elite Eight, average 23 points and nine rebounds a game. Unlike Williamson, James was able to bypass college and go directly to the NBA after high school. Since then the NBA has implemented a rule that essentially bars players from coming straight out of high school. While his freshman year was a success, Williamson's shoes became a national story -- one that might have cost Nike millions of dollars. During a nationally televised game versus North Carolina, Williamson blew out his shoe, causing an injury which sidelined him for five games. In a video announcing his decision, Williamson thanked Duke and called the last year the greatest year of his life. 1363
Cory, you campaigned with joy and heart, and instead of just talking about bringing people together, you did it every day. You made our politics better just by running. Grateful to you and looking forward to your continued leadership.— Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) January 13, 2020 286
