SAN DIEGO, CA (KGTV) - Four students have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Del Mar Union School District (DMUSD).The district has since launched a dashboard on its website to inform the school community about any active cases at each school.“We’re just being very transparent and keeping families informed,” said Jenni Huh, the Director of Student Services for DMUSD.Two students tested positive for COVID-19 at Sage Canyon School, one student tested positive at Sycamore Ridge School, and another student tested positive at Torrey Hills School.“We received the results directly from the families, and we were able to respond very quickly,” said Huh. “I’m very happy to say that they are doing very well, and we have not had any other cases.”Huh said all students and staff who came in contacted with those who tested positive are quarantined for 14 days.“If we learned of a presumed positive case, we would treat it exactly as the same way that we would respond to a confirmed positive,” she added.Parents are also notified if their child was potentially exposed to someone who possibly came in contact with someone who tested positive.At Sage Canyon, parents learned of the two positive COVID-19 cases over the weekend.By Monday, students in the two impacted classrooms were able to transition back to online learning.They will continue online learning during the two-week quarantine.DMUSD Superintendent Holly McClurg said district officials developed a Safe Reopening Plan over the summer to respond to these situations. She said the methods worked as expected.“To see children not miss a beat with their instruction has been great,” she said.While many parents may still have concerns sending their children off to school knowing this could happen at any moment, McClurg said the district’s goal is to be transparent and work with families to make the transition back to in-person learning go as smoothly as possible. 1933

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Thieves hit a well-known business causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. Bill Howe Plumbing, located on Aero Drive, had their work trucks vandalized as thieves steal gas from the gas tanks. Fleet manager Rhett Wheeler says the business has been targeted at least three times in the last month. “Its a shock that someone will crawl underneath a car with a drill, drill a hole in a gas tank, to steal a couple of gallons of gasoline,” says Wheeler. Thieves have damaged at least 10 vehicles, costing the family-owned company around ,000 in damages. “We end up losing a truck for two or three days per occurrence,” says Wheeler. Wheeler is urging everyone, including businesses, to check their vehicles of leaking gas before driving off. The company has reported the incidents to police. Managers are also working on more security measures for the future. 889

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man in the center of a viral video depicting a police arrest appeared in San Diego County Superior Court Tuesday. But he was there for another case, dating back to 2017.20-year-old Trenelle Cannon spoke at one of his many court appearances scheduled for this week. This one was regarding a robbery from 2017, where prosecutors said Cannon snatched a ,000 gold chain off a person's neck."The defendant was seen running to a vehicle, and that vehicle took off. There was a police hot stop on it. The defendant ran from the passenger and left the necklace inside," Deputy District Attorney, George Modlin said. But Cannon made headlines because of a controversial video, released Wednesday. The 12-second video was recorded from the back of a sedan that Cannon was riding with four others. Police said despite a demand to stop, the driver sped off onto Interstate 5. Near the freeway exit, police conducted a traffic stop. That's where the video begins. Cannon's girlfriend Shakira Smith, who took the video, said the man on the other end of the officers' punches, is Cannon. But San Diego Police said the 12-second video does not show the whole story, of how the 20-year-old had multiple outstanding warrants. According to San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit, officers were surveilling Cannon before the incident. When he took off, Chief Nislet said officers chased him. When they got close, he noted Cannon resisted, which resulted in the necessary force, which he called "physical strikes and distraction strikes.""Cannon refused to cooperate and struggled to keep his hands in front of his body." Chief Nisleit said. Cannon's loved ones said that was police brutality."He is quickly pulled out of the vehicle by his shirt, head first, throwing him down to the ground aggressively," girlfriend Shakira Smith said. In his short adult life, Cannon has been the defendant for at least three other criminal cases: involving a stolen cell phone, a gold chain, firearms possession, and identity theft. While he awaits the arraignments for his new charges, he requested a change in his living situation."I just wanted to request that I be taken out of the psych ward or whatever," Cannon said. "But they put me in like, a psych ward facility on the 6th floor, and I would request that I go to mainline. I've seen the psychiatrist and she said there is nothing wrong with me at all, and she doesn't understand why I'm up there."Cannon's arraignment for the charges from the video will be tomorrow at 1:30 pm. 2534

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- San Diego State University held an inauguration for their new president. Dr. Adela de la Torre is the ninth president for SDSU but the first female president. She was appointed in 2018. During her speech she said, “I know I stand here as first woman to serve as permanent president to lead this university, but I recognize that I stand on the shoulders of women who have shaped the identity of SDSU from the very beginning”. Looking at the coming years, she says there is critical work that needs to be done. SAN DiEGO (KGTV) - Police deployed tasers to arrest a man following a road rage outburst that got out of control Wednesday evening.Police identified the man as 33-year-old Jason Berard. He was driving a silver SUV that backed into a white pickup truck near Park Boulevard and Howard Avenue in the University Heights neighborhood.  According to the driver of the pickup, they pulled over into a Chevron. The driver of the pickup truck thought they were going to exchange insurance information, but instead, Berard was confrontational.  According to witnesses, Berard punched the other driver before ripping away the man’s cell phone and throwing it on the ground, smashing it.A gas station employee called the police.  After police responded and made contact, police say Berard assaulted an officer. That’s when another officer came to help and fell to the ground during the struggle.Police say Berard took off on foot and got about a block down Howard Avenue but was taken down after an officer using their taser.Berard could be facing battery charges on an officer as well as resisting arrest. 1122
