SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — K-pop star and TV celebrity Goo Hara was found dead at her home in Seoul on Sunday, police said.Police said an acquaintance found the 28-year-old dead at her home in southern Seoul and reported it to authorities.The cause of death wasn’t immediately known. Police refused to provide further details.Goo made her debut in 2008 as a member of the girl group Kara, which had big followings in South Korea, Japan and other Asian countries. Someone is making death threats against a 10-year-old girl at her school in Framingham, Mass.The girl is a fifth grader at Hemenway Elementary and the two notes directed at her have now drawn the attention of Framingham Police.It was Friday morning when the Muslim youngster went to her classroom cubby and found a note calling her a “terrorist.”“She was visibly upset, she was crying,” her uncle Jamaal Siddiqui said. “That’s not what Islam teaches, and that’s not what Muslims are.”Her uncle says the principal visited each classroom urging the culprit to come forward with an apology and sent an email to parents condemning the incident.“Hate is not brought from birth, it is embedded into a human being either by parents or their surroundings,” Siddiqui said.On Tuesday morning, there was a second note, this time saying “I will kill you.”“Just the thought of that makes me feel sick to my stomach,” Siddiqui said.The principal quickly brought the superintendent and police onboard, but despite their safety concerns, the little girl’s family has not pulled her out of class.“If we take her out of school it’s just going to show that we can’t stand up to the situation,” Siddiqui said.The principal says many classmates have rallied around the student and some disgusted parents did the same.“It’s absolutely devastating and I don’t want this to happen in my child’s school at all,” one parent said.“It’s nuts basically,” another parent said. “Hard to believe this thing could happen.”So far, school officials and police have not been able to ID the handwriting or trace the notebook paper.Her family has urged the young victim to smile through it and not become bitter, but know that’s a tall order for a 10-year-old.“It’s sad, it’s sad that kids at such a young age have to deal with this,” Siddiqui said.The girl’s parents will meet with school officials and police Wednesday to discuss a safety plan going forward.The FBI announced Tuesday that hate crimes in this country are up 17 percent this year. 2017

SORRENTO VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A Marine veteran suffered major injuries after a wrong-way driver crashed into him on I-5 early Saturday morning.Friends have identified the victim as Luis Maldonado. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. His service dog Jax, who was also in the car, was taken to an animal hospital and is expected to survive.The wrong-way driver died at the scene. California Highway Patrol suspects he was under the influence of alcohol. He has not been identified.Maldonado's friends have set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for the mounting medical costs.  622

SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - A construction worker was hit by a car and killed Wednesday morning on state Route 94 in Spring Valley.The crash was reported shortly after 12:10 a.m. on eastbound SR-94 near Avocado Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.ABC 10News learned the victim was a worker for Granite Construction, and he was working alongside other construction workers when he was struck.Cones had been set down on the roadway, allowing traffic to pass on the left while work was being conducted on the right side. However, some workers told ABC 10News a car traveling on the wrong side of the cones struck their co-worker.Witnesses said the victim was dragged about 40 feet before the car, a 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage, stopped.The 41-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The car's 24-year-old female driver remained at the scene for CHP questioning.The crash remains under investigation. The CHP said, "At this time, alcohol and or drugs are not believed to have played a factor in this collision."No other injuries were reported. 1073
