SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities are searching for a woman who disappeared while driving from San Diego to Victorville nearly two weeks ago. According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, 53-year-old Izetta Burney went missing on November 24. Burney disappeared while driving home to Victorville after visiting a San Diego spa, a friend tells 10News. According to the friend, Burney’s phone goes straight to voicemail and her credit cards and bank account show no signs of activity. Burney was last seen in Victorville driving a black 2008 four-door BMW with California license plate number 7EXG207. She is described as five feet, 11 inches tall with a tattoo on her right arm and a mole above her lip. She was last seen wearing a black top and black spandex pants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Chula Vista City Councilman Steve Padilla, who last week announced he contracted coronavirus, has been hospitalized at UCSD Medical Center after experiencing difficulty breathing, his family announced Thursday.Ashleigh Padilla, Padilla's daughter, said her father "was admitted to UCSD Thornton Hospital ICU where he is receiving additional treatment, including a respirator to aid with difficulty breathing associated with COVID-19."“I know his amazing doctors and nurses are doing everything they can to send him home healthy when this is all over," said Ashleigh Padilla.No further details about his condition were given at this time, but Padilla did issue a warning to the public through his daughter.“My father asked me to pass on a message: Everyone needs to take COVID-19 seriously. Please follow the advice of our public health professionals to reduce spread of the virus and take precautions to keep your families and our community safe," said Ashleigh Padilla.Padilla, who represents Chula Vista's District 3, made the announcement in video last Saturday that was published on his Facebook page."After recently experiencing symptoms, I was diagnosed as being positive for the COVID-19 virus, also known as the coronavirus," he said last Saturday.Padilla appeared in the video to be in good spirits as he told viewers that he was doing "very well" and "feeling well."In a follow up statement later that night, he described having a fever, body aches, headaches, chills, that "came on very rapidly." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Candalee Carbonel remembers the panic she felt Tuesday when her son's principal called about an incident involving her 7-year-old. "This is a horrible situation, I pray no other family has to go through this," said Carbonel. Her son Cole has autism and managed to walk off the Miller Elementary campus in Tierrasanta without staff noticing. He walked about half a mile to his house. "It broke my heart, knowing I drop off my child every day at school in their hands. They are now responsible to be his safety, to keep him out of danger. This really breaks my heart," said Carbonel. Carbonel says panic turned to frustration when she learned how the school handled the situation. "They should've called 911, called the police, then called me, and I could've helped. I could've been somewhere; I could've come home, I could've been here for my son when he was looking for me," said Carbonel. But instead, the principal went to look for Cole herself, driving to the family's home. She found Cole inside the house, watching television on the couch, and proceeded to take him back to the school and call Carbonel. "It broke my heart that a little kid could be running the streets, and no one called his mom," said Carbonel. She's grateful he made it home safe, but Carbonel says she can't help but wonder what could have happened to him on the walk home. The military family is new to the district, and Carbonel says she's been advocating for her son to have a one-on-one aide as he did in his last school district. She was pushing for more support for her son so that an incident like this wouldn't happen. SDUSD says as a result of this incident, they are going to add an additional staff member to provide above-and-beyond support to Cole's classroom. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Business associations in North Park and Normal Heights are pushing back against a plan organizers say could bring more customers to their parts of town.Leaders from both business improvement districts are expressing coronavirus-related concerns over a scavenger hunt the city and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition are planning beginning Aug. 12 and lasting two weeks. "It's unpredictable, especially in this environment, when you're going to invite people to get out of their house for the first time," said Scott Kessler, who leads the Adams Avenue Business Association. "We just don't know what to expect."Organizers say the event is all about social distancing. Participants download an app called Scavify, which they use to do things like find landmarks or answer trivia questions. Local businesses decide how much they want to be involved. "Most of this engagement is done outside, socially distanced, and it's just about highlighting businesses and community organizations," said Sylvie Froncek, program director at the Bike Coalition. But the business organizations say they are concerned about a lack of organization and late notice. "We welcome shoppers, diners and people in need of essential services but we do not support any gatherings that cannot be managed or overseen for safety protocols. Bike events have traditionally brought great benefit to North Park because of the number of people who see them as a way to connect with friends while enjoying outdoor activity," Angela Landsberg, who directs the North Park Main Street Association, said in a statement. "Unless these events can be managed to ensure proper safety for our community at this time we believe they could do more harm than good."Others say that fear is unfounded.
