This week, Jada Pinkett Smith is engaging in a new conversation that's been difficult for women to talk about: hair loss. But it impacts millions of women, and instead of dealing with it alone, she wants to empower women to talk about it openly.One woman knows exactly what she's talking about. Almost every day DeAnn Payne picks out her wig the way many pick out clothes.It's something she's been doing for the last seven years, since being diagnosed with alopecia."I'll pick up an outfit now say 'Okay, I'm going to wear this wig,'" Payne said. "And my husband will say, 'That that one doesn't match that outfit.'"It's easier to laugh about it now, but when it first happened that was the last thing she wanted to do."It was traumatic," Payne said. "To deal with it. To deal with your own feelings because I love my hair."Payne's hair had always been long, but in 2011 it started falling out, and about two years later it was all gone."I was devastated," Payne said. "Yeah, I I didn't know what to think."As hard as it was to process what was going on outside, she said what was happening inside was even harder."Now what I can do? And is is ever going to come back? And how are people going to see me? I don't want people to see me," Payne said.It's a struggle many people often go through alone. That's why Payne said seeing someone like Jada Pinkett Smith sharing her struggles publicly is so powerful."I was in the shower one day and then just like handfuls of hair just in my hands," Pinkett said on her show Red Table Talk. "And I was just like, 'Oh my God am I going bald?'""People are going to see what she has," Payne said. "This, and is willing to come out and to tell others about it. And so I can be ok with this. It's not just me."As many as 6.8 million people in the United States are affected by Alopecia, a common autoimmune skin disease that causes hair loss on the scalp, face and sometimes other areas of the body. There are several types, including scarring alopecias, which are irreversible, and non-scarring alopecias, which are more common."Many of the non-scarring alopecia are reversible depending on the reason that they exist," said Dr. Michelle Draznin, a dermatologist with Kaiser Permanente.Draznin said non-scarring alopecia can caused by different issues like your autoimmune system, thyroid and even stress."It's really hard on people particularly women because I think it's not super socially acceptable to have hair loss in women," Draznin said. "And it can feel very very vulnerable. The good news is, that usually goes away."Even if her hair doesn't come back, Payne said she can and will live a productive life. This pandemic holiday season, the last thing you need is too have your power disconnected.But Lisa Shook , who manages a home inspection company, recently got a call from someone claiming to be with their electric company."He said he was going to be in our driveway to cut off our services," she said.Shook handed the phone to owner Rob Wells, who was told he was behind on his bill, and would be cut off if he didn't pay immediately."He said we needed to pay 7 or they would disconnect the electric," Wells said, saying the man demanded a debit or credit card number.It sounded legit, as the caller knew the name of his business, and more.So this expert who normally inspects houses inspected his records, and realized he was not behind on his bill after all.But it may have been too late: Someone emptied his debit card a short time later."Everything got hacked, my credit card, everything," he said.It was all a scam. He is now working with his bank to repair the fraud charges.Easy to believe the caller's claimsLast year, one church almost lost ,000.Donald Kincaid is an Episcopal church groundskeeeper. He was shocked when he received a call from the power company claiming the church had fallen behind on its electric bill."The caller said that the gas and electric would be cut off in about a half an hour because the bill hadn't been paid," he said.The caller couldn't have been more clear. They call it "The Game." But one of the fiercest rivalry college football games will have to wait a few more weeks due to the massive Camp Fire burning in Northern California. Due to the poor air quality in the Bay Area from the Camp Fire, Saturday's Stanford/California football game has been postponed until Dec. 1. The game will take place one day after the Pac 12 championship game, but both teams have already been eliminated from contention. As of Friday, the Camp Fire has killed at least 63, and hundreds are missing. The game, which was going to be held on California's Berkley campus, is just one of many college sporting events being postponed this weekend due to poor air quality. "We have been carefully tracking air quality in Berkeley and the Bay Area over the past week, relying on the best data and guidance available to us from medical and environmental experts," California's Athletic Director Knowlton said. "The forecasts we have received show a minimal chance of the improvement necessary to hold the game on Saturday. While we would have preferred to play the Big Game on its scheduled date, once we realized that air quality would likely not return to acceptable levels, we made the decision to postpone for the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, gameday staff, students, band and spirit groups, alumni and fans."Berkley is located roughly 150 miles from Paradise, which was the epicenter of the Camp Fire.  1481

There's outrage among Michiganders waiting for unemployment benefits after learning a state employee allegedly teamed up with his barber's wife and stole over a million dollars in unemployment money.This is a horrific case of greed, especially with so many people depending on that money, and now finding out a state employee was benefiting at their expense.“It’s just heartbreaking to think about. It’s just like they don’t have a conscience,” said Melissa Filar.Filar has been waiting 14 weeks for unemployment and after learning a state employee is accused of taking over a million dollars in aid she says, “the hits just keep coming.”“There are a lot of horrible people out there; I think they’re really selfish," Filar said. "They probably see this as a golden opportunity to get rich."Federal prosecutors says 41-year-old Jermaine Rose, a claims examiner with the state unemployment insurance agency, teamed up with his barber's wife, 36-year-old Serenity Poynter, to steal more than a million dollars in unemployment aid meant for people in need.“They’re diverting the money and using it for their own greedy purposes and that is really sad, because right now we are at a time where thousands of people in Michigan are out of work because of the pandemic,” said U.S Attorney Mathew Schneider.The feds say Poynter filed more than a dozen fraudulent claims using different social security numbers, and also different names.“When you steal money from the unemployment system, you’re really stealing money from the people who need it and that money can go to pay for bread, for milk for food,” Schneider said.Rose and Poynter are charged with mail and wire fraud and theft of government funds, punishable up to 20 years. For Michiganders like Filar, still waiting for unemployment, she says more needs to be done to take care of people who are struggling.“I’m like going through my entire life savings and I have no money coming in right now," she said. "I am an artist. I do commissions but it’s peanuts compared to what I have to spend. Three years ago, President Donald Trump used an expletive to describe NFL players participating in on-field protests against police brutality. Now, Trump said on Wednesday he would be supportive of Colin Kaepernick rejoining the NFL.Trump told WJLA-TV on Wednesday that “absolutely, he would” be supportive of Kapernick getting another shot in the NFL, assuming he can play well enough to earn a roster spot.“If he deserves it, he should,” Trump said. “If he has the playing ability.
