Heading into the pandemic, 16 million US workers were employed by the restaurant industry, making it one of the largest industries in America.With the coronavirus still spreading throughout the US, whether it’s safe to visit a restaurant remains a question on the minds of many. For many Americans, they’re not quite sold on restaurants being safe despite most restaurants taking measures to protect staff and customers.ValuePenguin, which is associated with Lending Tree, conducted a survey of 1,000 Americans. The survey found that 44% of Americans feel indoor restaurants are unsafe to visit amid a pandemic, compared to 40% who believe they are safe. Women were more likely to say indoor dining is unsafe compared to men.More consumers, however, say getting takeout and dining outdoors is safe. Nearly 67% of respondents felt it’s safe to get takeout, and 58% said eating outdoors is safe.What do experts say?Many experts have said even with the precautions restaurants are taking, there is still a sizeable risk of catching the virus while dining inside. These risks, however, are generally significantly lower for those dining outside.Last month in an interview with MSNBC, Dr. Anthony Fauci pointed toward restaurants being among riskiest places to visit amid the pandemic. Fauci added that bars and gyms also are considered risky in his view.“When you have restaurants indoors in a situation where you have a high degree of infection in the community [and] you're not wearing masks, that's a problem,” Dr. Fauci said.Fauci pointed toward a September 2020 CDC study that found those who visited restaurants in the previous two weeks were two times more likely to test positive for the coronavirus than those who said they had not been inside a restaurant.“Reports of exposures in restaurants have been linked to air circulation,” the CDC said. “Direction, ventilation, and intensity of airflow might affect virus transmission, even if social distancing measures and mask use are implemented according to current guidance. Masks cannot be effectively worn while eating and drinking, whereas shopping and numerous other indoor activities do not preclude mask use.”Economic impact to restaurantsWith many restaurants forced to close indoor operations during the spring, and scale back indoor capacity during the summer, millions were out of work. According to the National Restaurant Association, 8 million restaurant workers, representing nearly half of the industry, were without jobs during the height of the pandemic. There remained over 2 million out-of-work restaurant employees as of the start of October.As of Wednesday, 100,000 restaurants have either closed for good, or for a significant period of time. As a whole, the restaurant industry is expected to lose 0 billion by the end of 2020.In hopes of minimizing spread and regaining customer confidence, the CDC and industry leaders have implemented cleaning procedures. HAWAII (KGTV) -- The United States Geological Survey is reporting that an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 struck Hawaii Thursday afternoon.According to the USGS, the quake happened about 1:30 p.m., 11 miles south of Fern Acres on the Big Island.The earthquake was just one of hundreds of earthquakes that have swarmed the island, prompting concerns that Kilauea Volcano could erupt.The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory indicated that a volcanic eruption was possible but not imminent. Kilauea is one of the world’s most active volcanoes.The series of earthquakes came after a collapse of a crater floor of Pu?u ?ō?ō, which is a volcanic cone in the eastern rift zone of the Kīlauea Volcano.Since that collapse, about 250 earthquakes were reported in the area into Tuesday evening, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory status report.Check out the map below to see the area near where the earthquake hit: 931

Doctor's offices have been doing it for awhile, but now CVS's Minute Clinic is jumping on board. Whether you have insurance or not, you can use it.There are a few stipulations if you're planning to use the video visit. You can only be seeking treatment for a minor illness, injury or skin condition. Each phone call will cost you .To get started, users will need to download the CVS app and complete a health questionnaire. Users will then be matched with a healthcare provider in the patient's state. They will look over the questionnaire and the medical history provided. After that, the video chat begins.  Many say this method is a better option than self-diagnosing yourself on WebMD. However, it does beg the question: can you really be properly diagnosed over the phone?Kevin Flynn with Healthcare Advocates says Telehealth is helpful in many ways, but there are a few downsides, especially if you think you have the flu."There's also a danger with the flu, which is dehydration," says Flynn. "Can a doctor really properly diagnose the dehydration over tele-medicine?"Flynn says Telehealth is great for those over the age of 40, who know and understand their bodies. But he says it's not great for the younger population, who don't really know that much about their health.If you still like going into the doctors office to be treated, Flynn says, a little secret in the health world in that some doctors will take cash for an in-person consultation. And if you have insurance, make sure to check your plan doesn't already offer virtual chats before you go through CVS.   1880

If the vent is emitting a lot of SO2 [sulfur dioxide] or H2S [hydrogen sulfide], they would taste BAD. And if you add sulfuric acid (in vog, for example) to sugar, you get a pretty spectacular reaction.Q: Is it safe to be in Hawaii right now?USGS: The eruption at Kilauea right now is impacting a small portion of the Big Island. Lava flows are active on the eastern tip of the island, in lower Puna, and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is closed due to the small explosions occurring at Kilauea's summit. But the Island of Hawaii is made up of 5 volcanoes, and only Kilauea is erupting.Even if there were to be a change in activity at Kilauea, it would not impact Hilo or Kailua-Kona (the largest towns on the island), which are located on different volcanoes. The biggest impacts might be vog, but that has been a persistent issue on the island for decades.
