On April 7, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act, signed by President Franklin Roosevelt, went into effect. The bill allowed beer to legally be manufactured and sold in the U.S. following the end of Prohibition.Needless to say, there are plenty of places to celebrate the day and local industry in San Diego. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego County is expected to consider a plan to open up county parks for worship and workouts.Supervisor Dianne Jacob is proposing the idea which is expected to be discussed by the board on Aug. 5. The proposal would make it easier for houses of worship and fitness centers, impacted by the pandemic, to utilize county parks. The proposal aims to speed up the permit process and waive fees.Public health orders have hindered the operations of many houses of worship and fitness centers after they were forced to close their indoor areas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is praising local businesses that are stepping up to the plate during these challenging times.A transportation company out of Oceanside called FACT, or "Full Access Coordinated Transportation," is offering free rides for seniors, the disabled or veterans who may need it for essential needs. That includes needs like doctor's appointments or rides to the grocery store.It is on a first come, first serve basis all across San Diego County.The free ride service runs through April 15th, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.FACT is encouraging anyone who is interested to call ahead at (888) 924 -3228. 647

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego police arrested a man in connection with the murder of a man on the I-15 freeway early Saturday morning.Police said 21-year old Brandon Acuna was in jail for his involvement in the murder of 21-year old Curtis Adams of San Diego.According to jail records, Acuna was booked for murder.Police did not confirm if he is directly responsible for Adams' death.Adams and his girlfriend were driving southbound on the freeway near the northbound I-5 on-ramp in Mountain View at around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday when they spotted a stranded car.The couple stopped their vehicle to help, said San Diego police homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree. Adams exited his vehicle and approached the other car.Someone inside the vehicle opened fire on Adams then fled the scene.Adams, an active-duty service member in the Navy, was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he died from his injuries. Police said Acuna was also involved with an incident that happened 10 minutes earlier in a Mount Hope neighborhood.They say the suspect(s) in that incident shot at a victim after trying to break into his car near 600 Boundary Street. The victim was not hurt.Investigations in both incidents are ongoing. 1240

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Researchers with UC San Diego are sounding the alarm on climate change but say there's still time to act.Veerabhadran Ramanathan, professor of climate and atmospheric sciences at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, says research indicates extreme events, like heat waves, the collapse of major ice sheets, and mass extinctions are becoming dramatically more probable.To address the problem, Ramanathan argues we must make deep cuts in emissions and remove carbon dioxide already in the atmosphere. 525
