Zachary Cruz left a dog boarding facility in Greenacres, Florida on Sunday with a dog named Coby in his arms. Coby is one of two family dogs he plans to take to his new home in Virginia.Back on Valentines Day, Cruz's adopted brother Nikolas killed 17 students and staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. "A lot of things I wish I would have done to prevent it, wish I could have stopped him somehow," Zachary said.Zachary said he and his brother fought a lot when they were younger though their relationship improved as they grew.RELATED: More Parkland coverage "I felt I was too hard on him at times. He was a fragile person. Mom was always there for him," added he said.A judge on Friday gave Zachary permission to move from South Florida. He was on probation after a March arrest for trespassing at Stoneman Douglas.Zachary is being helped by the legal rights group Nexus Services. He'll get counseling, and a job as a maintenance technician."I think getting him to a new place where he can come out of the shadow of his brothers heinous act and get an opportunity is really important," said Mike Donovan with Nexus."I just want to end bullying, it's just dumb.  Everyone deserves to fit in," Zachary said.As for his plans in Virginia, Zachary said he wants to finish high school, start an anti-bullying campaign and live his life. 1406

Your phone can do so many things for you nowadays. From making payments at the cash register to searching social media, the world is in the palm of your hands. But Siri can also be on your side in case you get pulled over by the cops. The feature is called "Police" and it is available via the Siri Shortcuts app. It secretly allows you to record interactions with police by just speaking a command to Siri like, “Hey, Siri. I’m being pulled over by the police.”“I think it’s a tool that citizens need in order to make police accountable,” said retired Detroit police officer turned attorney, David A. Robinson. The new Siri shortcut is available for Apple iOS 12 devices. It allows you to secretly record conversations between you and law enforcement.“What we have seen are video captures of police officers losing it, irrationally starting confrontations with citizens,” Robinson said.Once the app receives a verbal command, it goes into "do not disturb" mode. It automatically turns down brightness, pauses sound or video and can send a message to a pre-selected contact, letting them know you’ve been pulled over.“Police go to an academy as to how to deal with citizens, and so to suggest that (the app) is manipulating an officer, that really doesn’t make sense,” Robinson said.He adds that the app would have been good to have during the 2016 confrontation between Philando Castile and a Minnesota police officer after Castile was shot by the cop. Castile's girlfriend recorded the whole thing as he died in the front passenger seat.“What was captured in the video, and so the video evidence becomes that more important,” Robinson said. Some say the app is controversial, but there are similar police-recording apps like "ACLU Blue." Robinson says law enforcement should use the app as a tool. “That would stifle his reaction to make him do the rational thing, the right thing, the legal thing, then that prevents harm to him and prevents harm to the citizen,” Robinson said. The ACLU says it is legal to record officers in public, and police are not allowed to delete your footage, confiscate or demand to view your video footage without a warrant. 2189

You cough, have a sore throat, maybe a fever. Is it the flu or COVID-19?Health officials have been warning all summer that this fall and winter could be brutal, with the seasonal flu season in addition to the coronavirus pandemic. Some are calling it a potential “twindemic,” two pandemics at once.Nearly every health official, from small town clinics to the CDC is recommending everyone get the flu vaccine this year. While the flu shot is not shown to protect against coronavirus, medical experts say it will keep you healthy this fall and winter and therefore more able to fight the coronavirus if you get it.Wearing a mask also helps protect against both the flu and COVID-19, since both are transmitted through the air, when an infected person breathes, coughs, sings, talks, etc. and nearby people inhale the small particles of the virus in the air. Droplets can also land on surfaces, so washing your hands often and keeping your hands away from your face is also good advice to stop the spread of both. The flu virus and coronavirus have many symptoms in common. Including:Fever or feeling feverish/chillsCoughShortness of breath or difficulty breathingFatigue (tiredness)Sore throatRunny or stuffy noseMuscle pain or body achesHeadacheSome people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than adultsAnd both can infect a person with no symptoms. Both the flu and COVID-19 can result in serious complications, like pneumonia or death. What’s different? COVID-19 has been linked to a sudden change or a loss in your sense of smell or taste. It also, on average, takes longer for COVID-19 symptoms to appear after infection. On average, if you are exposed to the flu, symptoms appear in 1-4 days. COVID-19 patients report anywhere from 2-14 days between exposure and symptoms. The CDC estimates that between October 1, 2019 to April 4, 2020, roughly 40 to 56 million Americans got the flu virus. Of those, between 24,000 to 62,000 Americans died from flu-related causes. These are estimates because many people self-treat and recover from the flu at home without seeing a healthcare professional, so the tracking may be off. However, the CDC estimates flu cases will be higher in 2020 because of the overlap with the coronavirus and an increase in testing to rule out COVID-19 infections. 2326
