SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who went on a South Bay crime spree that included shooting at a moving vehicle and ramming an occupied San Diego police vehicle during a pursuit was sentenced Thursday to 19 years in state prison.Alfonso Ayala Flores, 26, pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and resisting arrest for a series of crimes last November that culminated in him driving toward officers who cornered him in a cul-de-sac and ramming a patrol car.One officer opened fire on the pickup truck Flores was driving, striking the truck, but not Flores.He was also given a separate 16-month sentence for an unrelated burglary case, but that term will be served concurrently with his 19-year prison term.The spree began with Flores carjacking a motorist's Ford F-150 pickup at the Frontier Motel in San Ysidro on Nov. 6. Deputy District Attorney Mary Naoom said that on the following day, Flores shot at an occupied vehicle.Two days later, he sped off when San Diego police spotted him driving the stolen truck in the 1900 block of Dairy Mart Road in San Ysidro. The suspect, who had a female companion in the truck with him, fled west, where he wound up at the end of a cul-de-sac in the Nestor neighborhood.As officers got out of their cars and shouted at him to halt, Flores made a U-turn and accelerated toward them, prompting one of the officers to open fire, police and prosecutors said.Naoom said Flores rammed the patrol car with the pickup as he sped away, with police again in pursuit. The subsequent chase ended in the 1200 block of Holly Avenue in Imperial Beach, where he pulled over and ran off along with the woman, according to Sainz.His companion was quickly apprehended and questioned by police before being released. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man who was sentenced to nearly a decade in state prison for crashing a pickup truck over the side of a transition ramp to the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, killing four people and injuring several others when it landed in Chicano Park below, was released from state prison Friday.Richard Anthony Sepolio, 28, was released Friday morning after serving two years and 10 months of his nine-year, eight-month sentence, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office confirmed.Sepolio was convicted by a jury last year of four counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of DUI causing injury. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A La Jolla restaurant owner raped eight women who he either drugged or knew were too intoxicated to consent to sex, a prosecutor said Tuesday, while a defense attorney argued none of the charged sex acts were forced upon the alleged victims, nor was there any evidence that any of the women were drugged.Jurors on Tuesday began deliberating the fate of Daniel Dorado, who is charged with 35 felonies, including rape of an unconscious person and rape of an intoxicated person. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A man suspected of fatally shooting the mother of his infant son along with the child's grandmother at the women's Otay Mesa home over the weekend has been found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in Baja California, authorities said Tuesday.Mexican authorities found the body of 31-year-old Justice Love Peace in a vehicle on Monday, according to San Diego police. His death is believed to have been a suicide.Peace, also known as Jeremiah Alfred Horton, allegedly killed 37-year-old Elizabeth Stolz and her 65-year-old mother, Debora, during a custody dispute that erupted Sunday after he arrived at their residence in the 4300 block of Ebersole Drive to pick up the baby for visitation."This appears to be a tragic case of domestic violence," San Diego Police Lt. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A judge took under submission today a motion by the federal government to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the cities of Imperial Beach and Chula Vista and the Port of San Diego, alleging that the International Boundary and Water Commission is violating the Clean Water Act by not doing more to prevent Tijuana sewage from flowing into San Diego area waters.The federal government maintains that the IBWC isn't legally responsible for the sewage flowing into U.S. waters from Mexico.But the plaintiffs claim that since the IBWC oversees a flood control channel that redirects the Tijuana River on its way to the Pacific Ocean, as well as water- capture basins in five canyons along the border, the agency is responsible for the sewage that gets through those systems.RELATED: Imperial Beach businesses hurt by sewage & runoff related closuresImperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina, who has led the fight to against the IBWC since his city was hit with millions of gallons of raw sewage in February 2017, said it was heartening to hear U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Miller say he might go to the South Bay to see first-hand how the situation is being handled.Dedina said the plaintiffs got a fair hearing.
