LOS ANGELES (AP) — Deputies arrested a 13-year-old boy and seized a semi-automatic rifle after he threatened to shoot other students and staff at a Los Angeles-area middle school, authorities said Friday.In a separate case, a boy at another school was taken into custody involving a planned shooting.The arrests came barely a week after deputies were frantically summoned to a high school in Santa Clarita, where a 16-year-old boy killed two fellow students and took his own life.Since then, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has investigated at least 30 school threats, spokesman Sgt. LOS ANGELES (KGTV) — Late Saturday, Los Angeles County changed its public health order to allow indoor religious services with modifications — something that could have implications for a South Bay church's legal battle.Los Angeles County's Department of Public Health issued the changes following a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court on Dec. 3 that places of worship in New York could reopen because coronavirus restrictions violated the First Amendment of the Constitution. The high court then sent an unsigned order to California judges to reconsider Gov. Gavin Newsom's restrictions.RELATED: Chula Vista church among churches suing over right to worshipThe updated protocols require places of worship to require masks that cover the nose and mouth worn at all times on-site and that capacity doesn't exceed the number of people who can be accommodated while observing physical distance:"All attendees/visitors must wear a face covering that covers their mouth and nose at all times when in attendance and also at any time when they could come into contact with, or when walking past others who are non-household members.All attendees/visitors must observe a six-foot physical distance between themselves and others who are not members of their household. Measures have been implemented (advance registration, counting attendees at entry) to assure attendance does not exceed the number of people who can be accommodated with the required physical distancing in the indoor space.Seating is reconfigured to ensure that all attendees/visitors are able to maintain a physical distance of at least 6 feet between themselves and others who are not members of their household.Clear pathways have been identified between parking areas and other arrival points to the service areas to minimize crowding and congregating, to allow for monitoring of occupancy and for entrance screening.A staff person (or staff people if there is more than one pathway) wearing a cloth face covering is posted at the entryway but at least 6 feet from the nearest arriving or departing person to monitor use of face coverings and track occupancy of attendees/visitors.If attendees/visitors must wait in line prior to being seated or at any other point during their presence at the site, markings are used to demonstrate the required 6-foot distance between individuals.If applicable, aisles within the area used for indoor services are designated as oneway to support physical distancing.Podiums, platforms and other speaker areas have been reconfigured to allow at least 6 feet between speakers or celebrants.Staff have been instructed to maintain at least a 6-foot distance from each other in all areas of the site.Virtual access is offered to visitors who wish to participate in services or events but are at high risk if exposed to COVID-19."The ruling could have implications in San Diego County, where South Bay United Pentecostal Church has been arguing against the state's COVID-19 restrictions on worshipping indoors since May.Senior Pastor Arthur Hodges told ABC 10News on Saturday that he's hopeful a hearing will grant the church permission to reopen indoors."Because [Los Angeles County] is so much worse than [San Diego] with COVID, we are hopeful our county leaders here will follow suit as LA and/or we will receive a favorable court ruling ASAP that will open San Diego," Hodges said, adding they're prepared to go above and beyond current coronavirus precautions.According to Hodges, the Supreme Court voted down their initial lawsuit 5-4 in May.Hodges says they are still waiting on a ruling from Friday's hearing. 3615

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. — A helicopter crashed offshore near Jones Inlet Wednesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.Officials said the pilot, a 64-year-old man, appeared to be attempting a controlled descent at Meadow Island at around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday. The chopper landed in an area with about three feet of water.Rescue crews from the Coast Guard and several other local agencies responded. The pilot was rescued from the aircraft and taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, including a facial laceration and back and rib pain. He was the only one on board.There was also some damage to the helicopter.Chief Petty Officer David Turner of the U.S. Coast Guard said he did not know the cause of the crash, nor did he know details of the flight plan.There was very thick fog in the area Wednesday, and while Turner did not know if it was a contributing factor to the landing, he said it's difficult to operate in those conditions.Visibility was only a half-mile in the area at the time of the incident with misty conditions in the area."I kept on hearing this helicopter, circling and circling, and after a couple of circles, it didn't sound right to me," said Damian Walsh the man who helped rescue the pilot and took video of the immediate aftermath.Walsh was out on his boat when he says a thick fog quickly rolled in around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon."It turned pretty quickly probably had about 20 yards of visibility," he said.He and another boater rushed to the scene after hearing a loud splash.One coast guard officer told Walsh that the pilot fell 1,000 feet in three seconds.The helicopter fell into shallow water."He was lucky; if he fell 50 yards over, he wouldn't have survived," Walsh said. "I got him on the boat; I called his wife, let her know he was alight."Walsh said he and a couple of other Good Samaritans got him over to rescuers."They wouldn't have found him in that fog. LIVE OAK SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV)- Some residents in the Live Oaks Springs, Boulevard and Jacumba neighborhoods woke up with power. Others in East County haven't been so lucky. Residents without power say the outages happen every year, and they're frustrated. A local store owner in Live Oak Springs says he works hard all year to keep his store running, but the recent power outage will cost him almost a year's worth of earnings. "I lose business, I lose customers, now I lose all my stuff," says Sam Matthe. Matthe has been running the Live Oak Springs Market for four years. He says he's had power outages for the past two years, with some going on for days. Inside the store sits a large deli counter, freezers full of dairy items, produce, and a walk-in meat freezer in the back. Matthe says it's frustrating because he is on a different SDG&E circuit than others in the area. Just a mile north and south, those neighbors have power. "I don't know why. What's the difference?" says Matthe. "(It's) not too windy. They say its the wind, it's not; the wind it's normal."Matthe estimates he will lose more than ,000.
