SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A suspected hit-and-run driver who allegedly struck and gravely injured a bicyclist last month in the Midtown area was arrested in a shopping center parking lot in Kern County, it was reported Wednesday.San Diego police identified the suspected driver last week as Mauricio Flores and also released the name of a woman, Jessica Bailey, suspected of riding in the van with Flores.The pair were in a 2005 Dodge Caravan with Georgia license places that struck a bicyclist around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 on West Washington Street at India Street in the Midtown area, police said.RELATED: Bicyclist sustains life-threatening injury in hit-and-runThe victim suffered a life-threatening head injury and remains in the hospital, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.In video shot by a witness and released by San Diego police, the driver could be seen stopping after the collision and getting out of the van.The video then showed the driver and passenger going to the injured man on the side of the road before the driver tugs the bent bicycle out from under the front of the van and sets it aside. He and the female passenger then got back into the van and drove away.A second passenger in the van has not been identified by police and no description of the man has been disclosed.An off-duty CHP officer who saw a flier about the collision spotted a suspicious looking van bearing CA exempt plates, typically used by state-owned vehicles, while riding his motorcycle in the Lake Isabella area over the weekend and notified the local office, CHP Officer Robert Rodriguez told the Union-Tribune.The officer assigned to that area -- roughly 35 miles northeast of Bakersfield -- went looking for the van early Tuesday morning and found it in a Vons parking lot, this time with Vermont license places, Rodriguez told the newspaper. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A San Diego man who mailed more than four pounds of pure methamphetamine to Guam inside stuffed animals and had more than 500 counterfeit credit cards in his possession was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced Thursday.Daniel Wayne Gorman, 33, pleaded guilty to sending four packages from a Jamul post office in 2016, each containing a stuffed animal filled with methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.The packages were mailed under the alias "Daniel German" and were intercepted in Barrigada, Guam, prosecutors said.He was sentenced Monday to 10 years for his plea to distribution of methamphetamine and five years for possession of counterfeit access devices stemming from fake credit cards and driver's licenses discovered at his home during a 2018 police search.Investigators found more than 500 counterfeit cards, along with "multiple fake Florida driver's licenses bearing the defendant's photograph but the personal identifying information of others," according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.Many of the credit cards also bore the names of real individuals who were not Gorman, prosecutors said. 1187

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A woman died Monday after being injured Sunday when she was hit by a car in Rancho Penasquitos, police said.The San Diego County Medical Examiner says Nang Arm, 37, died after she was taken off life support Monday. Medics responded to a call at 7:07 a.m. Sunday on Black Mountain Road and Carmel Mountain Road, where they found an unconscious woman with face injuries, San Diego police Sgt. Robert Hawkins said.A gold-colored 2006 Nissan Sentra driven by 20-year-old Uvelyn Nunez- Jaramillo and carrying two passengers, was heading south on the 13700 block of Black Mountain Road when the car veered to the right, SDPD Sgt. Tim Underwood said.The car went onto a sidewalk, damaged a fence, then struck the Nang. She was taken to Scripps La Jolla Hospital, Hawlins said.The car continued a short distance down the street, where it also hit a water line before it came to a stop. Nunez-Jaramillo exited the Nissan and walked away.Several passersby stopped at the scene to render aid to the woman and emergency personnel, Underwood said.Detectives determined that Nunez-Jaramillo caused the crash. She was contacted and returned to the scene, where police determined she allegedly was driving under the influence.She was arrested and booked in the Las Colinas Women's Detention Facility for felony driving under the influence and felony hit and run.Detectives also interviewed Nunez-Jaramillo's two passengers, who were released, Underwood said. 1468

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A western harvest mouse found in Escondido tested positive for the potentially deadly hantavirus, San Diego County Vector Control officials announced Friday.The mouse was found during routine monitoring of the area. Since January, Vector Control has collected multiple mice that have tested positive for the virus in areas of north and east county, including Julian, Fallbrook, Bonsall, Boulevard, 4S Ranch, Warner Springs and Potrero.With each instance, county officials have reminded residents to avoid sweeping or vacuuming rodent droppings, which can push the virus into the air. Instead, residents are advised to use so-called "wet cleaning" methods like a diluted bleach spray, disinfectants or a sponge and a mop to clean up wild rodent matter like urine, feces and saliva.
