SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) - Despite Governor Gavin Newsom's orders, students at a private school in Spring Valley are scheduled to return to class in a few weeks. When Heartland Christian Homeschool Center begins its school year on Sept. 1, it will include in-school learning. Classified as a private school, the pre-kindergarten-to-12th grade school combines homeschooling with several days of in-person instruction every week. The plans come despite the governor’s orders banning in-school classes for counties still on the watch list. Right now, San Diego County remains on that list.Principal Lynda Hansen told ABC 10news, it's "important" for kids to be back in class, adding her school is "following all CDC guidelines."The state is allowing elementary schools to apply for waivers to the COVID-19 orders. Hansen says she'll apply for the waiver, but it likely won't affect her decision to open. The school’s COVID-19 section does list its precautions, including stepped-up disinfecting, encouraging social distancing, and masks for staff when close to students. Masks will not be mandatory for students. The mask issue is a point of concern for students at another private school with similar plans. Last week, ABC 10News reported on Foothills Christian Middle School in El Cajon.A letter sent to parents spelled out reopening plans in September, including masks being optional. That led to frustration for parents who emailed ABC 10News. The school cited a lack of evidence that masks prevent COVID-19 transmission in children.A county spokesperson says the have several tools for private schools out of compliance, beginning with education and on-site visits. Other options citations, cease-and-desist orders, and closure orders.Heartland Christian Homeschool Center issued the following statement: "Heartland Christian Homeschool Center Inc. is fully committed to complying with every lawful requirement of federal, state, and local government. Also, Heartland is an alternative educational choice. It is our aim to provide support, enrichment, and records for homeschooling families. Unlike traditional schools, our students are not on campus full-time. Our expectation is that San Diego County will be off the Governor's watch list by the fall. We are planning accordingly, following the CDC guidelines for schools. Our parents have been overwhelmingly supportive ..." 2387

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The Cardinals' game Friday against the Chicago Cubs was postponed after another St. Louis player tested positive for COVID-19. In a press release, Major League Baseball said the game was postponed to allow more time for additional testing and to complete the contact tracing process. The Cardinals have been off since last week when two players returned positive coronavirus tests. Eight players in total have tested positive, including star catcher Yadier Molina.ESPN reported the Cardinals already have games to make up due to postponing against the Milwaukee Brewers, who they were scheduled to play last week in a 3-game series. They are scheduled to play against the Brewers in doubleheaders on Sept. 18 and 20, and then as home team in St. Louis for a twin-bill on Sept. 25, ESPN reported.According to ESPN, on Aug. 13 and Sept. 10, the Cardinals will play a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers, who they were supposed to play in a 4-game series on Monday.Since MLB postponed the Field of Dreams game due to COVID-19, the Cardinals and Chicago White Sox will now play on Aug. 14 in Chicago. 1125

Six in 10 Republican voters now believe special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation is unfair, a dramatic 15-point swing over the last six weeks amid escalating attacks from President Donald Trump.A broad 61% of GOP voters say Mueller's probe into potential coordination between the Trump campaign and the Russian government during the 2016 presidential election is not being conducted fairly, up from just 46% who said the same in early March, according to a new Quinnipiac University survey released on Thursday.Only one in four GOP voters, 26%, said they believe Mueller is conducting his investigation fairly, dropping from 36% over the same span. Six months ago, Republicans were essentially evenly split on whether the probe was fair.Majorities of both Democrats, 79%, and independents, 58%, say they believe Mueller's probe is fair. The new numbers come about two weeks after investigators with the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, operating on information referred from Mueller's investigation, raided the apartment of Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to seize documents related to alleged payments to silence women accusing the President of sexual affairs. In the past, Trump has lumped the special counsel investigation and the Cohen investigation together and repeatedly complained of a "witch hunt" out to get him.Still, a similar majority of Republican voters, 59%, believe the President should not fire Mueller. Only a quarter of them believe he should."If you take a look, they're so conflicted," President Trump said of Mueller's team in an interview on Fox and Friends on Thursday morning. "The people that are doing the investigation, you have 13 people that are Democrats. You have Hillary Clinton people."Trump refused to rule out firing Mueller, a registered Republican, when asked at a press conference last week, instead calling the probe a "very, very bad thing for our country" and saying "we want to get the investigation over with.""I've taken the position, and I don't have to take this position and maybe I'll change, that I will not be involved with the Justice Department. I will wait until this is over," Trump said on Fox and Friends, lamenting the alleged bias in "our Justice Department, which I try and stay away from, but at some point, I won't."The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 14-7 on Thursday to approve legislation to protect Mueller from a potential ouster, though Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he will not bring the plan to a vote. Three in four Republicans, 74%, say they oppose such a bill.Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said in early April that "it would be suicide" for Trump to fire Mueller. Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Arizona, and Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, have raised the specter of impeachment if the President were to oust the special counsel. This poll from Quinnipiac University was conducted from April 20-24 among 1,193 registered voters nationwide. The margin of error is ±6.6 percentage points among Republican voters. 3066

SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. -- A Sheboygan dad was arrested for OWI after his two toddlers fell out of his van and were seriously injured.Police said it happened Tuesday just before 7:30 p.m. near 8th Street and Indiana Avenue. A witness told police the two children fell out of the van as it went through an intersection. Officers were eventually able to identify the children who were one and two years of age.A short time later police located their father -- who said he was not aware they had fallen out of the van.He was then arrested for OWI and Child Neglect. One child was treated and released from a local hospital. The other child was transported to a Milwaukee area hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.  764

SpaceX has brought two NASA astronauts home from a historic mission.Robert and Behnken and Douglas Hurley — the first astronauts to travel into orbit aboard a commercially developed spacecraft — returned home in a splashdown mission Sunday, the first such mission in America in 45 years. They've been onboard the International Space Station for two months after launching in the SpaceX Crew Dragon from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.Their spacecraft is nicknamed Endeavour."For the most part, we've had pretty good luck with, with Endeavour," Hurley said. "As far as on-orbit testing is performed, just like it did for launch and rendezvous. So we expect nothing different for the splashdown."The splashdown took place despite the presence of Hurricane Isaias, which did not have a significant effect on the mission. 825
