It is not a secret that tickets to NBA games are expensive. When that ticket gives you the opportunity to watch reigning NBA finals MVP Kawhi Leonard play, the price goes up even more. So it is understandable why many were upset that Leonard sat out on Wednesday in what was initially described for "load management." The Los Angeles Clippers ended up losing Wednesday's game 129-124 without Leonard. Following Wednesday's controversy, Clippers coach Doc Rivers was asked about Leonard's status. While he said that Leonard is healthy, the NBA claimed that Leonard has been dealing with a nagging injury. For Rivers' comments, the Clippers were fined ,000 by the league.“Following additional review of the LA Clippers not playing Kawhi Leonard in last night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, the NBA has confirmed that the team’s decision to sit Leonard for management of an injury was consistent with league rules," the NBA said in a statement. "The team has reasonably determined that Leonard is suffering from an ongoing injury to the patella tendon in his left knee and has been placed by the team at this time on an injury protocol for back-to-back games.“The NBA has fined the Clippers ,000 for statements, including by head coach Doc Rivers, that were inconsistent with Leonard’s health status.”In July, Leonard signed a 3-year, 3 million contract with the Clippers. Despite the NBA's determination that the Clippers were managing a lingering injury, fans were frustrated that Leonard was unable to perform. Imagine paying for a ticket weeks ago/months ago to see the Bucks vs Clippers only to find out the day of the game that Kawhi isn’t playing ??? Laurie Sylvia, the fourth person in Massachusetts infected with Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) since the beginning of August, has died.Sylvia was being treated at Tufts Medical Center in Boston after contracting the dangerous mosquito-borne virus that causes brain swelling in humans, said Jeremy Lechan, Tufts' senior media relations specialist. The other cases of infection this month are those of two men over 60 and another man between 19 and 30.This is the first time EEE cases have been reported in Massachusetts since 2013.State epidemiologist Catherine Brown told CNN in a statement that warmer temperatures and above-average rainfall in July sped up virus replication in mosquitoes, which could explain the uptick in EEE activity.Migratory birds might have even spread a new strain of the virus, though lab tests that could prove that have yet to be completed, she said.In Florida and Delaware, the virus has been detected in sentinel chickens, though neither state has seen any cases reported in humans.EEE kills one-third of those infectedEEE is rare but potentially fatal. Anywhere from 5 to 10 human cases are reported every year, but about 30% of all cases are fatal, according to the 1213

It's Opening Day for Major League Baseball! That means it’s time for warmer weather, baseball and…long lines at the ball park. But to shorten waiting times, stadiums around the country are using CLEAR, the biometric screening you see at the airports. At the Colorado Rockies Coors Field, fans typically wait on average about 15 to 20 minutes before getting into the stadium. With the new addition of CLEAR, the wait time is cut down to about 5 minutes. “They can really come to the ball park whenever and experience that expedited entry,” explains Walker Monfort with the Colorado Rockies. The team partnered with CLEAR to give fans the opportunity to get priority into the ballpark. Signing up for CLEAR at a stadium is free, but you can only use your membership at that stadium. But if you sign up for the 9/year membership at an airport, it will give you a priority at both locations. “You use your fingerprints, just like you would at the airport. You get into the ballpark,” says Ed O’Brien, head of sports at CLEAR, of the process. “We will then check your ticket. Then, you will go through the screening process, whether with a metal detector or with a wand.” More than a dozen stadiums across the country are using CLEAR. O'Brien says Clear is planning to expand the number of stadiums and how the technology is used. In Seattle, Seahawks and Mariners fans can link their driver’s license and credit card to their CLEAR account to grab a beer at the concession stand with their finger print. CLEAR is working to one day allow fans to use their fingertip as a ticket. 1593
