SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Thunderstorms are occurring Wednesday throughout San Diego County in the midst of a heat wave.Coastal areas, the inland valleys, the deserts and the mountains will all have a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.A high pressure system hanging over the Four Corners region is causing our heat wave while monsoonal moisture from Mexico is generating precipitation. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A coalition of groups protesting how law enforcement officers use force says it plans to launch a recall effort against San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan in 2019."You're going to see us all over this county," said Oletha Wade-Matthews. "We're not going anywhere until we see justice, or get you out of office."Around one dozen people gathered Downtown Tuesday to speak at a San Diego City Council meeting, then hold a press conference. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A college student from San Diego is in custody Monday, accused of threatening to open fire on a school campus. Last week, a person posted a screenshot of what investigators believe is a text conversation with Trevor Faison in which he sent a message threatening to “shoot up the school.” Exactly which school he was referring to was initially unclear. According to Chief Joseph Ramos at the San Diego Community College District, Faison had been a student at Mesa College last semester but was no longer enrolled. Ramos said Faison is currently attending Saddleback College in Orange County. According to Gerry Braun, a spokesperson for the San Diego City Attorney's Office, police eventually "determined the criminal threat was made against an individual at La Jolla High School."RELATED: Team 10: The City Attorney's office effort to obtain gun violence restraining ordersBraun added, "there is another pending case in Orange County with similar circumstances." Chief Ramos said there was no immediate threat to Mesa College adding, however, “whether it’s serious or not, the fact that he mentioned an attack is serious to us.”The San Diego Police Department filed a gun violence restraining order Dec. 11. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Weather forecasters are warning of "near-critical fire weather conditions" Sunday evening through Tuesday morning in San Diego County because of developing Santa Ana winds."Areas west of the mountains will see a sharp rise in temperatures early this week," the National Weather Service said, "with coastal locations potentially experiencing their hottest conditions so far this year."Inland areas and especially deserts will remain very warm through Thursday, the NWS said, before widespread cooling takes hold late in the week.Early morning satellite images showed widespread clouds extending to the coastal slopes, but much thinner than Saturday and with less uniform coverage, forecasters said. With clouds breaking up, clearer skies Sunday afternoon will allow temperatures to rise several degrees higher than on Saturday.Santa Ana winds will strengthen on Monday, with maximum gusts of 40 to 45 mph as humidity plummets, resulting in elevated fire weather conditions, the NWS said. Highs near 80 and 90 for coastal and inland valleys are expected."Model guidance suggests coastal highs on Tuesday could be the hottest so far this year, climbing well into the 80s." forecasters said. "Depending on the timing of the return to onshore flow, it's conceivable for some coastal cities to reach the low 90s.""All in all, temperatures will be around 20 degrees above normal at the coast, and 10-15 degrees above normal for inland valleys, where temperatures may near 100 degrees in spots," they said.Off the coast of San Diego County, gusty winds and large combined seas will create hazardous boating conditions through Monday morning. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Girls Empowerment Camp put on by the San Diego Fire Department started Saturday despite some controversy a few months ago. The camp teaches girls what it takes to be a firefighter. The girls learn how to pull hoses, climb ladders, and climb out of windows just like firefighters do on the job. In February, attorney Al Rava sent a letter to the city attorney on behalf of his client, Rich Allison. The letter claimed that the camp was unwelcoming to boys solely based on their sex. RELATED: Girls empowerment camp rescheduled after abrupt cancellationThe camp was canceled, but days later Mayor Faulconer issued a statement saying the camp would go on. The girls are thankful the camp is back on.
