Democrats are pressing Equifax to offer more protection to millions of Americans after last year's massive data breach. In a letter Tuesday, Democrats on the House Oversight Committee asked Equifax's interim CEO to offer customers at least three years of credit monitoring and identify theft protection. Equifax has offered one year of those services for free."Given the sensitive nature of the personal information that was stolen — and the ability of criminals to store and use that information for years to come — we believe that the millions of U.S. consumers whose personal information was compromised in the Equifax data breach should receive the most robust form of credit protection and identify theft services available," Democrats wrote in a letter to interim CEO Paulino do Rego Barros. The letter was signed by Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland and the other 16 Democrats on the committee.Equifax spokeswoman Meredith Griffanti said in a statement to CNN that the credit reporting agency is "engaged with both federal and state regulators and are having ongoing discussions about appropriate remediation for consumers."The Republican chairman of the committee, Representative Trey Gowdy, could not be reached for comment.Related: The Equifax hack could be worse than we thoughtThe personal information of as many as 145 million Americans was exposed in the hack, including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers and home addresses. After the data breach was revealed in September, Equifax also offered free credit freezes through June 30 and free credit locks for life. Both services help prevent criminals from opening accounts in your name. The service Democrats are asking about is Equifax's credit monitoring, which reviews a customer's credit reports from all three major credit reporting bureaus. Equifax's credit freezes and credit locks apply only to Equifax credit reports. The lawmakers, citing a congressional briefing by the company's own top IT official, said one year of protection for consumers is "inadequate.""Leading experts and consumer advocates have warned that one year of protection is insufficient," Democrats wrote in the letter.Consumer advocates argue stolen information has an unlimited shelf life.Credit bureaus like Equifax gather information on people to create credit reports, which lenders use to determine the risk of a potential borrower. The agencies draw information from banks, credit card companies, retailers, public records and other sources. 2520

Despite not meeting the original requirement of playing a minimum of six games this season, the Big Ten voted to allow Ohio State to participate in the Big Ten Championship Game for December 19.The No. 4-ranked Buckeyes were slated to play their sixth game of the year on Saturday against archrival Michigan, but a coronavirus outbreak prompted the Wolverines to cancel their matchup against OSU. The cancelation was announced on Tuesday. The move leaves No. 12 Indiana out of the title game. The Buckeyes previously defeated Indiana, giving the Hoosiers their lone loss of the season.“The decision was based on a competitive analysis which determined that Ohio State would have advanced to the Big Ten Football Championship Game based on its undefeated record and head-to-head victory over Indiana regardless of a win or loss against Michigan,” the Big Ten said in a statement.Ohio State is slated to take on No. 14 Northwestern in the title game.A huge factor likely came down to Ohio State’s chances of making the coveted four-team College Football Playoff. The CFP uses conference championships as part of its formula in selecting the top four teams in the country. With its loss to Ohio State, Indiana would have been highly unlikely to qualify for the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes previously had two contests called off due to the coronavirus. Last month, an outbreak among Maryland players and staff prompted the Terrapins to cancel their game against OSU. Two weeks ago, a cluster of cases, including head coach Ryan Day, prompted the Buckeyes to cancel their matchup against Illinois. 1609

DENVER, Colo. — Broncos CEO Joe Ellis and General Manager John Elway have tested positive for COVID-19 as the virus continues to hit the organization hard.Ellis woke up not feeling well last Sunday and missed his first Broncos home game in 26 years, watching from home as a precaution. Elway began experiencing symptoms on Monday, alerted the medical staff, and left UCHealth Training Center immediately. Elway and Ellis learned of their test results on Tuesday morning. They are feeling well, other than minor symptoms, the team said. Statement from the Broncos: pic.twitter.com/PPYuJQedZN— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) November 3, 2020 The Broncos have gone through contact tracing and determined that Ellis and Elway's cases were independent of one another. They believe both cases originated outside the building. According to the team, there were minimal close contacts identified for each and none included coaches or players. Those in close contact have been notified.Ellis and Elway have been tested daily since training camp began in August. The Broncos have experienced a rash of positive tests beginning 17 days ago with running backs coach Curtis Modkins, which placed the team in intensive protocols that they have not lifted. Those protocols include virtual meetings and mask-wearing for players on the field when helmets are off. Modkins has returned to work. However, defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, offensive line coach Mike Munchak and starting right guard Graham Glasgow have been isolated because of COVID-19. The organization has also had multiple staff employees test positive.During a Tuesday conference call, Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL's Chief Medical Officer, called the several positive cases for the Broncos "certainly a concerning situation for us." The league has maintained contact with the Broncos over the last two-plus weeks, saying Denver has cooperated and "done an excellent job" with its intensive protocols, which they have remained in since Modkins' positive test."At this point, we feel there’s not ongoing transmission among the players," Sills said.Broncos coaches are working remotely today as they begin game preparations for Sunday's game at Atlanta. The next few days will be important for Broncos because of travel and being in close quarters on the airplane. If a player is not feeling well -- even without a positive test -- he is not allowed to travel. So being healthy as of Saturday is critical. This story was first reported by Troy Renck at KMGH in Denver, Colorado. 2537

DENVER — Convicted murderer Chris Watts has been moved from a Colorado prison to another prison out of state.Four sources confirm to KMGH's Jace Larson that Chris Watts was transferred from the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, where a new prison inmate goes after conviction, to an undisclosed facility out of state. Victims’ families -- who requested to be alerted -- have been notified, two of the four sources with knowledge of the movement told KMGH. Watts' current location has not been identified, except to victims' families, the source said.Watts pleaded guilty last month to killing his pregnant wife Shanann Watts and their two young daughters at their home in Frederick, Colorado in August. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. The Colorado Department of Corrections inmate locator shows Watts' location as the Denver Reception and Diagnostic Center, but this is no longer the case. The move occurred as part of an interstate compact where high-profile prisoners can be moved to another state’s system, or occasionally the federal prison system, for safety. Such placements are not always permanent. 1180

Democrats now lead Republicans by 52% to 41% in a nationwide generic Congressional ballot according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS and released Tuesday. The blue lead has increased slightly from eight percentage points in June of this year to an 11 percentage point difference in the most recent poll.Despite Democrats' advantage on that measure, a plurality (48%) in the same poll believe Republicans will maintain control of Congress after the election, compared with 40% who believe Democrats will gain control.Among those who favor the Democratic candidate in their district, 64% say they think Democrats will ultimately win control of Congress, while among those backing Republican candidates, 83% think the GOP will maintain control.Compared to previous elections, 68% of registered voters say they're more enthusiastic to vote in this election than in the past. Registered Democrats and Republicans report being more excited to vote at similar levels, with 70% and 68% saying so, respectively. However, Democrats have taken a much higher leap in enthusiasm vs. 2016 than Republicans. When CNN last asked the question, in September 2016, only 38% of Democrats said they were "more enthusiastic," while 48% of Republicans said the same. Registered Democrats jumped 32-points since 2016 and Republicans moved 20-points. 1345
