BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua)-- The United States welcomes the peaceful development of cross-Straits ties and "more positive and stable" cross-Straits relations, said a China-US Joint Statement issued here Tuesday.     The statement said that both sides underscored the importance of the Taiwan issue in China-US relations.     The Chinese side emphasized that the Taiwan issue concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed the hope that the US side will honor its relevant commitments and appreciate and support the Chinese side's position on this issue.     The US side stated that the United States follows its one-China policy and abides by the principles of the three Sino-US joint communiques, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that "the fundamental principle of respect for each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity is at the core of the three Sino-US joint communiques which guide China-US relations. Neither side supports any attempts by any force to undermine this principle," said the statement.     The two sides agreed that respecting each other's core interests is extremely important to ensure steady progress in China-US relations.     Both countries believe that to nurture and deepen bilateral strategic trust is essential to China-US relations in the new era.     The US side reiterated that it welcomes a strong, prosperous and successful China that plays a greater role in world affairs.     The two sides are of the view that in the 21st century, global challenges are growing, countries are more interdependent, and theneed for peace, development and cooperation is increasing. China and the U.S. have an increasingly broad base of cooperation and share increasingly important common responsibilities on many major issues concerning global stability and prosperity.     The two sides should further strengthen coordination and cooperation, work together to tackle challenges and promote world peace, security and prosperity, said the statement.     The two sides reiterated that they are committed to building a positive, cooperative and comprehensive China-US relationship for the 21st century, and will take concrete actions to steadily build a partnership to address common challenges.     During their discussions, the Chinese side said that it resolutely follows the path of peaceful development and a win-win strategy of opening-up, and is committed to promoting the building of a harmonious world of enduring peace and common prosperity.     The U.S. is committed to working with other countries in addressing the most difficult international problems they face, said the statement.     China welcomes the United States as an Asia-Pacific nation that contributes to the peace, stability and prosperity in the region.     The statement was signed during U.S. President Barack Obama' s visit to China between November 15 and 18. 

TAICHUNG, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Negotiators of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan ended a new round of talks Tuesday as the two sides agreed to cooperate in farm produce quarantine and cross-Strait employment of fishermen, as well as to deal with different product quality standards.     In an evening banquet held by the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) Tuesday, ARATS president Chen Yunlin expressed his gratitude to the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF) and to those in Taiwan who had contributed to the ARATS-SEF meeting.     The fruitful meetings between the two organizations were made possible by both sides across the Taiwan Strait, Chen said.     He said the two sides should continue to contribute to the peaceful development of the cross-Strait ties despite all difficulties. "The only way to measure our efforts is whether the agreements really benefit people across the Taiwan Strait."     In the previous three rounds of talks since June 2008, the two sides reached nine agreements concerning transport, trade, tourism, cooperation in finance and fighting crime among other issues.     "We have done many things in the past one and half years that should have been done long before. We will work with our Taiwan counterparts to make sure the agreements are implemented and to close loopholes in them." Chen said.     Chiang Pin-kun said Taiwan and mainland must jointly tackle economic challenges, and the establishment of a cross-Strait economic framework should not be delayed.     He called on both sides to contribute to economic prosperity and development as well as long-term peace and stability.     The agreements reached at previous meetings between SEF and ARATS had brought substantial benefits for the normalization of cross-Strait communication and benefited people on both sides, he said.     However, there was room for improvement and both sides needed to carry out further negotiations, he said.     He called for both sides across the Taiwan Strait to continue efforts to push for the development of systematic talks and promote cross-Strait communication and cooperation.     The ARATS and SEF are expected to discuss future negotiations on the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), although talks on the agreement were not on the agenda of this meeting.     The two sides reached a basic consensus on avoiding double taxation and strengthening taxation cooperation in a preparatory meeting Monday afternoon. BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday held a telephone conversation with his Ethiopian counterpart Meles Zenawi on relations and major international issues of common concern.     The two leaders pledged to work together to push forward the new type of strategic partnership between China and Africa.     They also exchanged views on China-Africa cooperation, China-Ethiopia relations and climate change.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States issued a joint statement in Beijing Tuesday, vowing to deepen counter-terrorism consultation and cooperation between the two countries on an equal and mutually beneficial basis.     The two sides promised they would boost joint efforts to combat transnational crime and criminal organizations as well as money laundering and the financing of terrorism, including counterfeiting and recovery of illicit funds.     Issued after the meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama, the statement formulated that the two countries would strengthen cooperation on criminal investigations and deepen collaboration in combating embezzlement.     Other areas, such as counter-narcotics, control of pre-cursor chemicals and combating unlawful migration, smuggling and human trafficking, are also targeted for more cooperation in the future.     The two countries agreed to exchange evidence and intelligence on law enforcement issues in a timely and reciprocal manner, and undertake joint investigations as well as provide investigative assistance on cases of mutual interest, according to the statement.     Obama is in Beijing for a four-day state visit to China that started in Shanghai on Sunday night.

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Monday hoped China and Germany would increase mutually-beneficial cooperation in various fields to promote bilateral relations.     "China and Germany are highly complementary in economy and share great potential for cooperation," Wang told visiting German Federal Minister of Economics and Technology Rainer Bruederle.     Hailing the China-Germany 37-year diplomatic relations, Wang said the two nations had witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and increased cooperation in economy, trade, investment, science, technology, culture and other fields.     China was in a period which witnessed accelerated industrialization and urbanization, Wang said. "We will unswervingly follow the principle of putting people first and the scientific concept on development to seek sustainable development."     Bruederle said Germany would work with China to expand bilateral cooperation, in a bid to promote healthy and stable development of trade and economic relations between the two nations.
