SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- Proposed plans to restore the Mission Bay wetlands have been released by the group ReWild Mission Bay.Organizers say those plans would include moving a popular campsite in the area. The “Campland on the Bay” site would have to be relocated after 50 years.Neighbors who live near the area say the possible move is disappointing. “I was just telling my sister who is out of town this place is legendary. People come here all times of the year.”Managers at the campsite say they’ve extended their lease another five years but it could change depending on the project.Organizers of the expansion say the existing wetlands in Mission Bay may not be here in years to come.“The way it is now wetlands will be overtaken by sea level rise,” says Jim Peugh with the San Diego Audubon Society. “One has to plan ahead to make sure we have wetlands in the future.”Those plans would include giving tourists and locals easier access to the land. It will also give wildlife a larger nesting area.A statement from Campland on the Bay says in part:“We remain hopeful the City will continue to provide this amenity for local residents for another 50 years. The public does not have to choose between waterfront camping and wetlands – both uses can support one another as Campland has proven for the past half-century.”Organizers of the expansion says there is no exact timeline on when restoration will take place. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— The man accused of raping and torturing a woman in his home in Rancho Penasquitos faced a judge today. 32-year-old Uber driver, Seyed Hassan Kaboli pleaded not guilty to 12 counts of sexual crimes. Kaboli peaked through his holding cell, as the judge announced his fate. San Diego Police said Kaboli bound, raped, and tortured a woman, multiple times at his home in Rancho Penasquitos on May 19th and 20th. Sky10 footage showed the victim being consoled by the police on Monday, and she said she ran naked to escape 24 hours of brutal misery. The next day, Kaboli was arrested just north of National City. 10News obtained a copy of the criminal complaint, explaining Kaboli’s 12 felony charges. They include:(5) Forcible oral copulation (2) Rape(1) Rape by a foreign object(1) Torture(1) Assault with great bodily injury(1) Sexual battery(1) False imprisonmentThe complaint also suggests that there may be another person involved in the crimes. Under count three, it reads Kaboli “inflicted aggravated mayhem and torture on the victim and another person.”Under count eleven, it reads “said person was unlawfully restrained by said defendant and an accomplice.”In the courtroom, neither the defense nor the district attorney would comment on a possible third party.Still, the judge issued a protective order for the victim— a woman, whose relationship was not disclosed. But Kaboli’s defense attorney said she was not his Uber customer. “There is no prior relationship,” Kaboli’s attorney, Ryan Tegnelia said. “He is not denying that they came into contact with each other on the date of the incident. But before that, they did not have any relationship.”Tegnelia said Kaboli’s family describes him as an introverted man who keeps to himself. They said they are shocked at his arrest. “This obviously came completely out of left field for them, caught everybody by surprise,” Tegnelia said. The judge set Kaboli’s bail amount at 0,000. SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) - A former North County Boy Scout said he is one of hundreds of sexual abuse victims in a new lawsuit against the Boy Scouts of America.Matt, who only wanted to use his first name, joined the Boy Scouts when he was around 13 years old. He really loved the outdoor activities.“We had a lot of great trips… a lot of good camp outs,” Matt said. Roughly a year after he joined, things changed.“We had an assistant Scoutmaster that started to join us on trips,” Matt said. “He just started spending more time with kids and a lot of these bad things started to happen.”The new lawsuit alleging sexual abuse was filed on behalf of one former scout in Pennsylvania. The total number of alleged victims in this latest wave of accusations is more than 850, according to attorney Andrew Van Arsdale. Matt is one of them.“Our oldest [alleged victim] is in his late 80s. Our youngest is 14-years-old,” Van Arsdale said. Van Arsdale is one of the lawyers involved in the group “Abused in Scouting.” The group came together after hearing the Boy Scouts were potentially filing for bankruptcy. They began a campaign telling victims that they no longer have to be in hiding. “It’s time to come forward. It’s the right time now and the response was overwhelming,” Van Arsdale said. He said he is “100 percent” expecting more people to come forward. For Matt, time has not healed all wounds of what he said the assistant Scoutmaster did to him.“He had come at me on multiple times. I think the first time, I was able to get him away from me,” Matt said. He was able to get away the first time, but not every time. He specifically remembers a camping trip in Camp Pendleton.“I woke up and he had gotten his hands on my genitals and massaging me… I woke up and pushed him off,” Matt said. “I think I just really kind of put it at the back of my head and just tried to forget about it.” But he didn’t forget and he said other kids in his troop were also abused by this man. In a statement, the Boy Scouts of America said that they “believe victims” and that the organization has “taken significant steps over many years to ensure that we respond aggressively and effectively to reports of sexual abuse.” The full statement can be read here. For some, it’s too little too late. “They knew it was a problem for a long time,” Van Arsdale said.“Anytime you got kids with adults having access to kids, you better make sure those adults are reliable, good people. And I don’t know that the scouts are doing that now. I would hope they are, but I know back in the day they weren’t,” Matt said. Matt said he quit because of that assistant Scoutmaster. So far there are eight former scouts in San Diego that are part of these latest allegations against the organization, according to Van Arsdale. 2798
