TORRANCE (CNS) - General Motors and Honda Motor Co. announced Thursday they have signed a memorandum of understanding toward establishing a North American automotive alliance.According to a jointly issued statement, the "scope of the proposed alliance includes a range of vehicles to be sold under each company's distinct brands, as well as cooperation in purchasing, research and development, and connected services."Honda, with North American headquarters in Torrance, and GM "would collaborate on a variety of segments in North America, intending to share common vehicle platforms, including both electrified and internal combustion propulsion systems that align with the vehicle platforms."Co-development planning discussions will begin immediately, with engineering work expected to begin early next year.The announcement builds on the agreement signed between the companies in April to jointly develop two all-new electric vehicles for Honda based on GM's global EV platform powered by Ultium batteries.The GM-Honda relationship, which began more than two decades ago, includes recent collaborations on fuel cells, batteries and the Cruise Origin shared autonomous vehicle."This alliance will help both companies accelerate investment in future mobility innovation by freeing up additional resources. TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) - Two people in a Utah-registered truck crashed into vendors and other vehicles on the Tijuana side of the U.S.-Mexico border at the San Ysidro Port of Entry Monday, Televisa reported. Two people in a black Chevy truck with Utah license plates started a fight with a pedestrian about 3 p.m. at Boulevard Gral Manuel Márquez de León and Paseo de los Héroes, according to Televisa, which cited Tijuana Police Chief Mario Martinez. Minutes after the fight, the suspects drove to the border crossing where they struck more than 15 vehicles waiting to cross into the United States and ran over 15 vendors, the news agency reported. The DNR counted nearly 300 at bird feeders near La Crosse. Senior ecologist Don Quintenz at Schlitz Audubon Nature Center has seen a higher volume of birds are at the center. If the weather stays like this, he says, birds could be in trouble. "A lot of dead birds," says Quintenz, "Freezing temperatures for a couple days straight, that could be very hard on a population."Amateur Naturalist Judith Huf has studied ornithology for years and says some birds will make sacrifices while others will make due. But she does help them out by keeping her bird feeder full. "Some of them will do a little reverse migration...It's a little nicer in Illinois. It's not snowing down there and [the birds] can get food...Robins have been coming to eat bird seed out of the feeder. They don't normally eat bird seed, that's not normal behavior for a robin," said Huf. DNR says this weather creates a lose-lose situation for the birds.
