BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Vice President Xi Jinping expressed the hope to further boost exchanges between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the French Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) here Friday.     "As ruling parties of respective countries, the CPC and UMP both face the challenges from domestic reform and economic globalization," Xi told Patrick Devedjian, UMP general secretary, during their meeting here. BRUSSELS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Brussels on Thursday evening for an official visit to the European Union (EU) headquarters.     The premier was welcomed at the Brussels international airport by European Commission officials, Belgian Foreign Ministry officials, officials of the Chinese mission to the EU and the Chinese embassy in Belgium, as well as Chinese students studying in Belgium.     In a written statement distributed to the press upon his arrival, Wen said the world is undergoing profound changes with a volatile international situation, more regional conflicts and a spreading financial crisis.     In this context, to enhance dialogue, promote consultations and deepen cooperation is in the interests of both China and the EU, and in line with the trend of the times, which is for peace, stability and development, he said.     Wen said he is looking forward to having frank and in-depth exchange of views with EU leaders on China-EU relations, on how to jointly deal with the global financial crisis, and on other international and regional issues of common concern.     "I hope and believe that this visit, as an important trip of confidence, will enhance the confidence of China and the EU in their future relations and in practical and mutually beneficial cooperation. I also hope and believe that this visit will enhance the confidence of the international community in the all-round strategic partnership between China and the EU," he said.     During his two-day visit in Brussels, Wen is scheduled to hold talks with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. He will also meet EU foreign and security policy chief Javier Solana.     Brussels is the third leg of Wen's European tour after Switzerland, where he attended the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and Germany. The trip will also take him to Spain and Britain.

DAVOS, Switzerland, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday stressed confidence, cooperation and responsibility as key to overcoming the current global financial crisis.     The global financial crisis is a challenge for the whole world, and the pressing task for the international community is "to take further measures to restore market confidence as soon as possible," Wen told participants attending the World Economic Forum annual meeting in the Swiss skiing resort of Davos.     In tackling the crisis, confidence is the source of strength, practical cooperation the effective way and accepting responsibilities the prerequisite, he said in his special message at the forum.     "We should not only take more forceful and effective steps to tide over the current difficulties, but also push for the establishment of a new world economic order that is just, equitable, sound and stable," Wen said.     To this end, international economic cooperation and a sound multilateral trading regime should be promoted, and the reform of the international financial system should be advanced, he said. UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- China called on the international community here on Friday to honor its commitment of aid to Iraq so as to help speed up its process of reconstruction and development.     La Yuefan, minister counselor from the Chinese mission to the United Nations, said at the Security Council meeting on the situation concerning Iraq that for progress in security and political fields to be effectively consolidated, economic and social reconstruction must also move ahead.     In this regard, "we call upon the international community to truly honor its commitment of aid to Iraq by helping Iraq speed up its process of reconstruction and development," La said, adding that China supports the meeting of foreign ministers of neighboring countries and other mechanisms playing a bigger role.     China also hopes that the Iraqi government will continue to lead all factions to agree on the common vision for the future of the country by placing national interests above everything else and strengthening dialogue and unity, La said.     "We encourage UNAMI (the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq) to continue its positive role in this regard. He urged local enterprises to guarantee job opportunities for migrant workers and asked infrastructure projects contractors to hire as many migrant workers as possible.     The vocational training for the migrant workers should be strengthened, Hui said.     Migrant workers were also encouraged to go back to their hometown to start their own business, and support should be given in bank loans, tax breaks and business registration, according to Hui.     Hui also urged local government to attach great importance to the fight against drought, which plagued more than 866,700 hectares of wheat in the province.
