LAKESIDE (CNS) - A pileup on a rain-slick stretch of state Route 67 north of San Vicente Reservoir left one motorist dead Monday and another seriously injured.The chain-reaction series of crashes took place shortly before 7 a.m., when a 37-year-old Alpine woman lost control of her northbound Toyota Yaris near Foster Truck Trail in Lakeside, sending it veering sideways into the path of a southbound Chevrolet Silverado 3500 pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol.The resulting broadside collision fatally injured the driver of the subcompact car, CHP public-affairs Officer Travis Garrow said. Her name was withheld pending family notification.Following that crash, the truck, which was towing a trailer, careened onto the northbound side of the street, where a Chevrolet HHR station wagon hit it head-on.At that point, a Chevrolet 1500 pickup struck the back end of the HHR, and a Toyota Prius hit the right side of the Chevrolet 3500, Garrow said.Paramedics took the unidentified driver of the HHR to UCSD Medical Center in San Diego for treatment of major injuries. The other two motorists and a passenger in one of the vehicles suffered minor injuries in the wreck and did not require hospital care."It is believed all parties involved were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision," Garrow said.Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in this accident, according to the CHP. 1420

Las Vegas police said Monday the MS-13 gang has been responsible for 10 murders in the past year in Southern Nevada. Police said five suspects, including one juvenile, have been arrested in the murders after the last one occurred on March 2. The first one occurred in March of last year. The murders were linked through forensic evidence. The victims died of shooting and stabbing injuries. Six of the 10 victims were kidnapped before police said they were murdered on the outskirts of town. Sheriff Joe Lombardo called the suspects "extremely violent."The discovery of two bodies at Frenchman Mountain within a short period of time helped tip police off after the body was determined to be a MS-13 gang member. The victims have been identified as Daniel Clark, Richard Gaudio, Carlos Pachaca-Rodriguez, Arquimidez Sandoval-Martinez, Juan Carlos Estrada Raya, Jose Hernandez, Ricardo Olivas, Izzak Towery, Earl Ryan and Rony Fuentes.In addition to the ones near Frenchman Mountain, three of the murders occurred near Mount Charleston, while others occurred near Arville Street and Oakey Boulevard, Bonanza and Sandhill roads, Charleston and Nellis boulevards and Charleston Boulevard and Palm Street. 1248

It's a place where inmates stay while waiting to be transferred to another prison.Nassar pleaded guilty to multiple charges of sexual assault in November 2017 after being charged with molesting seven girls, all but one of whom were gymnasts. (KGTV) - "Dozens" of cats were found Thursday in an East County apartment in unlivable conditions.San Diego Sheriff's Department (SDSO) responded to a welfare check for elderly neglect just before 2 p.m. in the 9700 block of Channel Road. Deputies arrived and located "dozens of cats" in a 1000-square-foot apartment, according to a release.Deputies said the apartment was not in a liveable condition.Officials at the scene originally told 10News more than 100 cats were found, but later clarified it was difficult to count because the cats kept running away. Officials said that number is closer to 70 cats.An elderly female was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, but she is expected to be fine. No criminal conduct is suspected and no arrests have been made. 803
