The trainer battles in Pokémon Go, the hit augmented reality mobile game from developer Niantic, are going to be a lot more fun with the latest update."Trainers, two feature revamps are coming to Pokémon GO!" Niantic tweeted. "We are rolling out an updated appraisal system to give you more detailed information on your Pokémon's stats, and will soon be updating the Charged Attack mechanic in Trainer Battles. Watch for a preview!"The game previously had users tapping the screen to power up charged attacks in the game, but Niantic is adopting a more fun and engaging approach by having users swipe the screen as icons appear. The new system is similar to the popular mobile game, Fruit Ninja, that has you swipe at items coming across the screen. The appraisal system is also being improved to make it much easier to understand. Now, you will see the Individual Values of your Pokémon with three progress bars that turn red when they reach 100%.You will also be able to battle against Team Go Rocket grunts, and the shadow Pokémon that they abandon can be caught. The Pokémon Go update is rolling out in the US and other regions on Android and iOS, and it should be available everywhere in the coming days. 1219

The Pentagon's controversial policy banning transgender recruits from joining the military went into effect on Friday. The Pentagon says the new policy does not affect transgender troops currently serving in the armed forces, a contention that's strongly denied by advocates, who point to the potential for discrimination and harassment. The ban blocks individuals who have been diagnosed with a condition known as gender dysphoria from joining. Transgender individuals can serve, but only if they meet the standards of the sex they were assigned at birth. The Pentagon says the policy doesn't block transgender individuals from service, but advocates say it is designed to operate as a comprehensive ban on their presence. Current military leaders have testified to Congress that transgender troops have not affected cohesion, while retired military leaders have decried the policy as misguided and damaging.'Bigoted'"It's a bigoted policy. It has not one shred of evidence behind it," Ray Mabus, a former secretary of the Navy, told CNN. "In fact, all the evidence goes the other way. It goes against the basic American notion that it should be about what you can do and not who you are. ... To do this to patriots who are willing to serve -- not only willing, but eager to serve, who have raised their hands and said send me -- weakens our democracy and seriously weakens our military."Anthony Kurta, a Pentagon official acting for the deputy under secretary of personnel and readiness, told reporters Friday that "the department will continue to treat all individuals with dignity and respect, and every service member is able to express their gender identity. DOD will take no action solely based on gender identity."The policy, signaled when President Donald Trump tweeted a call for a blanket ban in 2017, still faces lower court challenges, but the 1866

There will be two versions of the redacted special counsel report, with one being released to the public and one that will eventually go to a limited number of members of Congress with fewer redactions, the Justice Department said Wednesday. Some of the redactions in the Mueller report will be because of the gag order in the case involving Republican activist Roger Stone, they wrote. Prosecutors say they are making these redactions so not to potentially prejudice a jury, since Stone has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces and is headed to trial. In a court filing related to the Stone case, prosecutors outlined a careful plan to prevent leaks of the less-redacted version the Justice Department plans to provide to Congress.First, prosecutors will "secure" the less-redacted version -- suggesting it won't be available immediately. They will also keep it in an "appropriate setting" and limit its access to only some members of Congress and their staff. If Congress wants copies of the less-redacted version, prosecutors may want to ask a federal judge for permission before giving it to them, prosecutors wrote on Wednesday. 1148
