LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former magazine model, her boyfriend and their former roommate are headed toward trial in the killing of a 71-year-old California psychiatrist whose body was found outside Las Vegas, a defense attorney said Friday.Kelsey Nichole Turner's lawyer, Brian Smith, said his client, Jon Logan Kennison, and Diana Nicole Pena are still due Monday before a Las Vegas judge on murder and conspiracy charges in the slaying of Thomas Kirk Burchard.However, Smith said their preliminary hearing will be called off after a grand jury handed up an indictment moving the case to Nevada state court for trial.Burchard lived in Salinas, California. Police say he had an intimate relationship with Turner and paid rent on a Las Vegas home where Turner, Kennison and Pena lived.Turner, Kennison and Pena are accused of killing Burchard and leaving his bludgeoned corpse in Turner's Mercedes Benz where it was found March 7 on a desert road between Las Vegas and Lake Mead.Turner, 26, modeled for Playboy Italia and Maxim magazines. She was arrested March 21 in Stockton, California.Kennison, 27, was arrested April 17 in Las Vegas.Pena, 30, was a Las Vegas Strip bartender. LARGO, Fla. — While many of us have spent the year wishing things were better, 93-year-old Virgil Sweet has spent the year trying to make it better.Sweet started by giving away his ,200 government stimulus check."I thought, 'I don’t really have a need for that so I’m going to give it to someone who does,'" said Sweet. ABC Action News did a previous story in May to help Sweet get the word out that he was asking people impacted by the pandemic to write him letters about why they needed the money. That story reached people all over the country. Letters poured in from people who needed help and Sweet picked one family to get his check."I found a lady who has two children. One of them is autistic and she has brain cancer so she got the ,200," said Sweet.But Sweet couldn’t stop thinking about the other heartbreaking letters. So he asked others to donate their checks to help. "We did it the old fashioned way, snail mail. We didn’t use email. LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas police arrested a man Saturday after he climbed on a wing of a large passenger airplane at the city's international airport.Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said it responded to a call of a man on the tarmac at McCarran Airport at about 1:32 p.m. local time on Saturday.When they arrived, police say they found a man on the wing of an Alaska Airlines flight headed to Portland. Less than two weeks after announcing that he had contracted COVID-19, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, appeared at Judge Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation hearing in-person on Monday and delivered his opening remarks without a mask.On Oct. 2, Lee announced that he had tested positive for COVID-19. He was one of about a dozen high-ranking government officials — including President Donald Trump — who attended Barrett's Sept. 26 nomination ceremony at the White House and later contracted the virus.Lee said he had received a letter from Congress's attending physician, Dr. Brian Monahan, clearing him to return to his in-person duties — though the letter did not note that Lee had tested negative for the virus."Based upon current CDC guidelines, you have met criteria to end COVID-19 isolation for those with mild to moderate disease," Monahan's letter read. "Specifically, it has been greater than 10 days since symptom onset, you have had no fever in absence of fever reducing medication for at least 24 hours, and your other symptoms have improved. The CDC does not recommend repeat SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing if these criteria are met.”It's unclear if Lee was tested prior to appearing in the Capitol Building on Monday. Graham's refusal to take a test forced a change in format for the weekend debate.During his opening comments, Leahy claimed that Republican senator's aversion to COVID-19 tests was a political tactic to remove any risk that would delay Barrett's nomination until after election day.In his opening remarks, Graham said that his committee had consulted with Monahan and the Capitol architect officials to set up the hearing room "in a fashion we can safely do our business."Following senators' opening statements, Graham explained that the Capitol architect had deemed the hearing room to be in compliance with CDC social distancing guidelines. He said that he wanted to make sure the room was safe but added that like the rest of America, the Senate needed to get "back to work."He also added that he had tested negative "last Friday" following brief contact with Lee, and said that he would not be tested for the virus at the request of "political opponents."Earlier this year, Monahan asked senators to wear masks while on the Senate floor.
