ST. PAUL, Minn. – The governor of Minnesota has called for order to be restored in the state amid violent protests over the death George Floyd. During a Friday press conference, Gov. Tim Walz and other state leaders addressed the public safety concerns the Twin Cities are facing as protesters take to the streets demanding justice for Floyd’s death. “We have to restore order to our society before we can address the issues,” said Walz.Watch the press conference below: Floyd was arrested Monday after a grocery store employee called the police to report someone trying to pass a counterfeit bill. A 10-minute video of Floyd’s arrest soon circulated online. The video shot by a bystander shows a Minneapolis police officer pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck while the man gasps for air with his face against the pavement. Floyd then lost consciousness and was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Four officers involved in Floyd’s death were fired Tuesday by the Minneapolis Police Department. And on Friday, the former officer who knelt on Floyd's neck was charged with murder and manslaughter. Walz said it is his expectation the justice for the officers involved in Floyd’s death “will be swift” and “fair.” And, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison echoed the governor’s call for “swift” justice. “I believe that the message has been sent and received that the wheels of justice turn swiftly,” said Ellison. “No unjustly, expeditiously, thoroughly, fairly, but swiftly.” For the past three nights, protesters angered by Floyd’s death have grown increasingly violent. Thursday, demonstrators torched one of the city’s police stations that the department had abandoned. Fires burned Friday morning in Minneapolis and nearby St. Paul. Minnesota National Guard members were being stationed in locations to help stem looting. Gen. Jon Jensen of the National Guard said Friday that he was made aware of a “credible threat” against his men and women, which led him to arm his forces, with the governor’s approval. “Our guardsmen maintain the right to self-defense,” said Jensen, without elaborating on the threat.John Harrington, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, says arrests were made overnight for burglary and arson, but he couldn’t provide the number of arrests at the time.Walz said he understands that trust in police has been lost by many, but the looting and recklessness that has taken place this week cannot continue. "The situation on the ground doesn't allow us, at this time, to tackle those issues," said Walz. "The very assets in our community, our library, our businesses, those non-profits and government-entities, the light-rail system, are all shut down from this. (CNN) -- Vice President Mike Pence made an unannounced trip to Iraq to visit US troops ahead of Thanksgiving, landing in the country Saturday amid violent anti-government protests.Pence visited the Al Asad Air Force Base in western Iraq, where he was greeted by the US Ambassador to Iraq and several military officers.He received a classified briefing from the commanding officer on the base and spoke by phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.On the call, Pence told Mahdi that he traveled to Iraq in part to "extend gratitude to the men and women (of the US military) serving in your country," according to the TV travel pool with the vice president.Mike Pence and his wife Karen Pence later served the troops a Thanksgiving lunch, with the Vice President serving turkey and Mrs. Pence handing out yams.As service members came up to them, the Pences asked each where they were from and thanked them for their service.Vice President Pence then delivered remarks to about 150 service members in a hanger. “I have never in 23 years ran across this!”That's how assistant Bristow, Oklahoma police chief Kendra Raney described what happened in the ladies restroom of Walmart on Tuesday. "A Walmart employee requesting an ambulance for a lady that was inside the women's bathroom either having a miscarriage, or having a baby," Raney said. That 911 call triggered emergency responses from multiple agencies, including police, fire and the Creek County Ambulance service. It sent paramedics racing to help.Raney described what first responders found, stating, "I understand the Walmart employees performed lifesaving measures and when the ambulance got there, they transported them both to a Tulsa Hospital."The Bristow Fire Department report shows it paramedics worked on the baby girl for 17 minutes. They gave her oxygen and cleared her airways. Finally, she took breaths on her own and made a weak cry.Why was the baby was born in the Walmart restroom? "Mom stated that she started having contractions about 2:30 in the morning that morning and she didn't think that they warranted a visit to the hospital," Raney explains. "She got up later, got her kids off to school and felt that she needed to use the restroom, so she stopped at the Walmart which the middle school's right across from the Walmart."Raney says the mother felt some pressure and then the baby came out. We asked how the mother and baby girl are doing now. Then she added, "Both are gonna make it."Raney said, the incident is still under investigation.
