EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of El Cajon is working to revitalize its main street, with the Magnolia Theater at the centerpiece of the effort.The theater used to be the El Cajon Performing Arts Center. In 2009, during the latest recession, the city shut it down to save money.Over the last few years, the city spent more than million to renovate the building and turn it into "The Magnolia."The building got new air conditioning and heating, new carpet, new seating and more modern amenities."We've rebranded it," says City Manager Graham Mitchell. "We have a new name, a new management company and a new way of doing things. Live Nation will provide up to 70 acts per year. The city will pay them a flat fee and then keep 100 percent of the proceeds from the shows.The venue reopened in October of 2019, and Mitchell says he's already seeing the impact it's having on the downtown area."My office is right across the plaza from the Magnolia, and pre-show, watching people spill into El Cajon, people that have not ever been here or haven't been here for a while, you can see the enthusiasm that this venue is building," he says.Business owners in the area agree.RELATED: Construction problems delay renovation of East County concert venueLupe Marrujo's family owns two restaurants on Main Street, the Downtown Cafe and Por Favor. She says business picks up on the nights when The Magnolia has a show."Before the show and after the show," she says. They hope those people will come back, even when there isn't a show."There's a lot of revival, a lot of renewal, and this project exemplifies the things that are happening in the city," says Mitchell. DURANGO, Colo. – The young bear that was burned in the East Canyon Fire in June was released back into the wild this week not far from where it was found, Colorado Parks and Wildlife said.The 2-year-old bear had been recovering at CPW’s Frisco Creek rehab facility in Del Norte from burns he suffered during the fire. CPW said the bear weighed only 43 pounds when he was first captured in the fire.But after undergoing salve treatment on his paws, and having his bandages changed 16 times over the course of a month, he recovered and was moved from a pen with concrete floors to one with trees and hiding spaces mid-July, where he spent the past monthMichael Sirochman, the veterinary technician and manager at Frisco Creek, said the bear was 110 pounds and had seen its paws toughen up before he was released Monday.“He’s now about the weight he should be for a two-year-old bear and is in good shape for going into the fall,” Sirochman said.CPW officers originally found the bear on June 16 walking near a pond on the east side of the East Canyon Fire, which burned in June outside of Durango. Officials said the bear was released not far from that location on Monday.CPW said the bear originally hesitated for a moment as it looked at and smelled its new surroundings but then jumped from a CPW truck and ran into the forest. (KGTV) - At age 73, Brian Duncan is following his own advice: if you think you can do it, you probably can.When Duncan got out of the Navy in 1967 he wanted to become a police officer. At the time, however, he says departments wanted big, tall men with 20/20 vision. He didn't fit the mold and moved on to a career in the court system.Twelve years ago, the itch came back, and Duncan joined the El Cajon Police Department's Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol, also known as the RSVP program.Now he's taking his service even further, working to become a reserve police officer.If he lands a job, Duncan will be a sworn police officer able to make arrests and carry firearms. The only difference is he'll always have to work alongside a regular police officer.Duncan says his age is not a barrier and he's doing this to make a difference in the community."I've proven I can get through the academy, so I can do it. If I didn't think I could do it or would jeopardize someone's safety, I wouldn't do it," said Duncan.Reserve officers work voluntarily and are not paid.On Friday Duncan graduates from Grossmont College's 32nd Police Academy and already has an application out for a job.  1210

(KGTV) — El Cajon City Council voted Friday not to make any changes in how the city enforces the county's coronavirus public health orders.Thursday, Mayor Bill Wells called for the special meeting to discuss stopping El Cajon Police from enforcing public health measures around facial coverings and distancing.City Council leaders said the city would continue enforcing the rules as they have on a case-by-case basis, according to the mayor. I'm not telling people not to social distance. Drivers in New Orleans are claiming that they have been issued speeding tickets, even though their cars are in park, thanks to a speed camera operating in the city, WWL-TV reported. Donald Schulz told WWL that he has been issued speeding citations 10 or 11 times while his car remained parked. The camera, which is designed to ticket speeders, captured Schulz's license plate, instead of the car passing by Schulz's car. Schulz has had to make frequent stops at New Orleans City Hall to fight citations, causing him a headache and time wasted. "Whoever is responsible for reviewing these violations is not doing their job," Schulz told WWL.According to Fox News, the citations range from to 0.  City officials told WWL that a contractor is to blame, and that the contractor will train its employee how to properly issue citations.  906
