(KGTV) - Forest service officials are alerting San Diegans to keep their eyes out for rattlesnakes around property and on local trails as spring sets in.Cleveland National Forest officials found a young rattlesnake hiding in the shade under a drainage pipe at the department's Palomar district office in Ramona this week.The snake was captured and released unharmed, officials said, though "still angry."RELATED: What to do in the event of a rattlesnake biteDespite last year's trends, San Diego has been enjoying a lull in rattlesnake calls. The county has recorded a total of 82 calls since the beginning of 2018, according to Daniel DeSousa, director at the county Department of Animal Services.Last year, San Diego saw a surge in rattlesnake calls to the county. Most of those calls occurred in April but continued well into June. Between January 2017 and March 2017, the county saw 177 calls for rattlesnakes. That number rose to 232 the next month.Traditionally as San Diego heats up, sightings could increase."Due to our very temperate climate, rattlesnakes can be found year round in our County, in communities ranging from the coast to the deserts," DeSousa said during last year's spike. "But snake sightings may spike during hot spells."When encountering a rattlesnake, residents should keep a safe distance away and call county animal services. Animal control officers will be sent out to impound the snake and place it in an area where it doesn't pose a threat to humans.Residents in San Diego County's unincorporated areas or in Carlsbad, Del Mar, Encinitas, San Diego, Santee or Solana Beach can call Animal Services at 619-236-2341. Republican U.S. Sen. David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff will face off in a Jan. 5 runoff in Georgia for Perdue’s Senate seat. Libertarian candidate Shane Hazel was able to get enough votes to prevent either candidate from clearing the 50% threshold needed for an outright win. The contest has already seen huge spending from outside groups on both sides and millions of dollars more are expected to pour into the state ahead of the runoff. Perdue is a close ally of President Donald Trump. President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, told courts in New York late Wednesday that he'd like to drop defamation lawsuits he filed against Fusion GPS and BuzzFeed regarding the production and publication of an infamous dossier on Trump and Russia.Cohen had sued Fusion, a political research firm, and the media company separately in January, one year after the Russia dossier, which was prepared for Fusion, was published by BuzzFeed. He had alleged that assertions about family ties he had to Russians and a trip he took overseas mentioned in the dossier were wrong, and that they damaged his professional reputation.By dropping the lawsuits, Cohen will avoid turning over information about himself to the companies. 742

President Donald Trump told special counsel Robert Mueller in writing that Roger Stone did not tell him about WikiLeaks, nor was he told about the 2016 Trump Tower meeting between his son, campaign officials and a Russian lawyer promising dirt on Hillary Clinton, according to two sources familiar with the matter.One source described the President's answers without providing any direct quotes and said the President made clear he was answering to the best of his recollection.This is the first insight into how the President responded to the Mueller team's written questions -- a key unknown as Mueller aims to wrap up his investigation and prepare his final report.These two points -- WikiLeaks and the Trump Tower meeting -- are critical to Mueller's central mission: investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russians during the 2016 campaign.The President's lawyers previously told CNN the answers would match his public statements. Still, these written answers could be subject to criminal charges if false.A spokesman for the special counsel declined to comment. CNN did not get a full readout of all of the President's answers to Mueller's questions.According to many lawyers who have experience in cases such as this, adding the caveat that he has no recollection, as the President apparently did with these written answers to Mueller, is standard procedure as a way to try to shield a client should their recollections be challenged."It's well-documented how frequently he says or tweets false things, and there's no criminal exposure for that," said CNN legal analyst Carrie Cordero.
