MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities in northern Mexico say they have identified bodies found in a well as two missing tourists from the United States. The Baja California state prosecutor’s office said in a statement Monday that the victims were identified as retirees Ian Hirschsohn and Kathy Harvey. Their disappearances were reported to authorities Sept. 2. Meanwhile, at the southern end of the Baja Peninsula, the Baja California Sur state prosecutor’s office said that the body of 65-year-old Craig Harrison was found on the beach in Cabo Pulmo Saturday evening. McDonald's is celebrating International Women's Day with a big, gleaming, W."For the first time in our brand history, we flipped our iconic arches," said McDonald's Chief Diversity Officer Wendy Lewis.The giant arches have been physically flipped at just one California restaurant. Massachusetts is the first state since the deadly shooting in Las Vegas last month to ban bump stocks, the gun accessory the shooter used to increase his rate of fire.Bump stocks became a major source of discussion among lawmakers across the country after the attachments were found on the guns of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock, who killed 58 and injured some 500 last month. But talk of banning the devices nationwide appears to have stalled.Beginning in 2018, penalties for the possession or use of a bump stock or trigger crank in Massachusetts will range from probation to life in prison, Representative David Linsky, a Democrat who proposed the amendment, told CNN.The new law defines a bump stock as "any device for a weapon that increases the rate of fire achievable with such weapon by using energy from the recoil of the weapon to generate a reciprocating action that facilitates repeated activation of the trigger."In other words, the devices allow semi-automatic rifles to fire more rapidly, similar to automatic weapons. Mandy Lamay wants to go from renter to buyer, looking to close on her first property during the COVID-19 crisis.“I started right as the pandemic was hitting,” she said of her home search. “That was kind of my driving factor for buying a house.”Purchasing a property during a pandemic, however, has proven to be somewhat problematic for buyers like Lamay.“You have to be viewing the house day one it pops on the market,” she said. “If you’re actually interested, you have to put in an offer immediately.”This kind of competition has created all kinds of chaos across the country.“We are seeing this pent-up demand,” said Dr. Jessica Lautz, vice president of demographics and behavioral insights for the National Association of Realtors. “We’ve actually seen in every region on a national scale that home sales actually did increase.”Lautz says after two months of drastic decline during the coronavirus shutdown, pending home sales mounted a record rebound in May.“The month-over-month increase in pending home sales is the largest that we’ve recorded,” she said.That’s more than a 44% increase after seeing home sales drop to their lowest levels in nine-and-a-half years.“Buyers are rethinking their living situations,” Lautz said. “So, the demand is really hot and that’s going to drive up prices.”Also impacting prices are slow building, low inventory and low interest rates.Combine those factors with more Americans looking to move from big cities to smaller towns and Lautz believes America’s real estate market will be impacted even more.“People are reevaluating and saying, ‘I don’t want to live in a dense area, crowded city center, crowded blocks,’” she said. “Elevator living is just not the right thing for people today.”For Lamay, she’s locked in a 3.125% interest rate and says she may overpay for her first property, if it gives her a peace of mind.“And then hopefully I’ll have a big new yard for my dog and myself,” she said. 1948

LUTZ, Fla. — A South Carolina man was arrested in Florida after Hillsborough County deputies say he planned to commit a crime he planned for eight months.The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said on Sunday, August 16 at 2:43 a.m., the suspect, Phillip Thomas, 24, entered a home within the Promenade at Lake Park in Lutz.Detectives learned Thomas parked his car at Idle Wild Church earlier that night, walked to the home, cut a hole in the patio screen, and remained there for about three to four hours. He was watching and listening through the windows, officials said.After the homeowner went to bed, Thomas came in through the back sliding door which activated the home alarm. It prompted the homeowner to look out the window and spot Thomas.The homeowner and a guest left the home in a car and called 911.When deputies arrived, Thomas was still inside the home.According to public records, the home is owned by Daria Berenato. She is a WWE wrestler who goes by the name Sonya Deville. “I have spoken to her and I’m glad she’s safe and I’m thankful and grateful that the sheriff's office took care of the situation immediately. Celebrity status aside this is sickening. I am a product of a sexual assault and have zero-tolerance or respect for any human being that would violate a person's privacy and or personal space," said WWE Superstar Titus O'Neil.Deputies discovered he was carrying a knife, plastic zip ties, duct tape, mace, and other items.Through the investigation, detectives discovered Thomas lived in South Carolina and came to Lutz specifically targeting the homeowner."We know the suspect was completely obsessed with the victim and they had been trying to engage in a conversation for several years, but were unsuccessful, and then Sunday night is when they tried to confront the victim," said Natalia Verdina, a public information officer with HCSO.Thomas told deputies he was planning to take the homeowner hostage."Our deputies are unveiling the suspect's disturbing obsession with this homeowner who he had never met, but stalked on social media for years," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "It's frightening to think of all the ways this incident could have played out had the home alarm not gone off and alerted the homeowner of an intruder. Our deputies arrived within minutes and arrested this man who was clearly on a mission to inflict harm."Thomas was charged with aggravated stalking, armed burglary of a dwelling, attempted armed kidnapping, and criminal mischief.We spoke with cybersecurity expert Stu Sjouwerman.
