SANTA FE, N.M. – Lawmakers in New Mexico have approved a COVID-19 relief bill that will use nearly 0 million to help residents of the state who are struggling during the pandemic.The legislation was passed Tuesday during a special one-day session called by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham as the state experiences a spike in coronavirus cases, like most of the country. The relief package, which was approved with bipartisan support, will allocate 4 million in direct unemployment assistance, providing a one-time ,200 check to all types of unemployed workers.Another 0 million will be allocated for a grant program for small businesses in the state, allowing business owners to apply for grants of up to ,000.About million will go to provide emergency housing assistance, million will go to emergency food banks services, and million will be used for direct economic assistance to low-income residents, in the form of a one-time 0 disbursement per qualified household.Legislators says the funding for these programs will be made available through a transfer of previously received federal funds. That includes about 9 million in unspent funds that were set to expire soon.The bill will also appropriate million from the state general fund to the department of health to provide for COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and vaccine implementation support.“When New Mexicans are in need, we act,” wrote the governor in a tweet after the statehouse passed the bill. “Grants for small businesses, unemployment assistance, emergency housing assistance – all on its way. Scientists are tracking an object heading toward earth that could enter the planet’s orbit, and they are not entirely sure what it is.The object, named Asteroid 2020 SO, is believed to be man made and not a piece of moon or other planetary debris."I suspect this newly discovered object 2020 SO to be an old rocket booster because it is following an orbit about the Sun that is extremely similar to Earth's, nearly circular, in the same plane, and only slightly farther away (than) the Sun at its farthest point," Dr. Paul Chodas, the director of NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, told CNN."That's precisely the kind of orbit that a rocket stage separated from a lunar mission would follow, once it passes by the Moon and escapes into orbit about the Sun. It's unlikely that an asteroid could have evolved into an orbit like this, but not impossible,” Dr. Chodas continued.Other publications believe the object could be from Surveyor 2, which was launched in September 1966.Scientists are estimating 2020 SO will enter earth’s orbit in November 2020, then pass by earth at a distance of roughly 30,000 miles in December, before heading back out to space in early 2021.For perspective, commercial planes fly at an altitude of about 7 miles on average.There is no danger to earth posed by 2020 SO, but its slow speed and relatively close pass-by, means scientists can study it. SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - Police have little to go on today in the case of a 19-year-old who was shot in San Ysidro, authorities said.According to the teen, he was standing on the street by himself around 11:50 p.m. Saturday when it happened, said Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.``He heard his name called,'' Heims said. ``He then heard several shots and felt pain to his back.''The victim fell to the ground, Heims said.He wasn't able to provide police with any other information about what happened.The teen was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.Police ask anyone with information to contact the SDPD Southern Division at 619-424-0400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-580-8477. 726

SAN JOSE, Calif. – A woman was caught on video intentionally coughing on a baby at a California yogurt shop after getting into an argument with the child’s mother.The San Jose Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the woman, who they call an “assault suspect.”Police say the adult female suspect was standing in line inside a Yogurtland in front of the mother and her 1-year-old child, who was in a stroller.A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was upset the mother was not maintaining proper social distancing, so she removed her face mask, got close to the baby’s face, and coughed two to three times, according to police.Video then shows the suspect leaving the business. She has not yet been identified or apprehended. 769

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Emergency crews have recovered a body after an incident at a Scottsdale aquatic park.Crews were at Eldorado Aquatic Park near Hayden and McDowell road early Monday morning.Scottsdale police say around 12:30 a.m.; an officer was making rounds in the area when he heard what sounded like muffled calls for help.He worked to locate where the calls may be coming from and eventually found them to be coming from a pipe that helps support one of the water slides.Officers were communicating with the victim, said to be a transient, but lost communication with him around 2 a.m.Officials say the man reportedly went up over a tall fence surrounding the park and was up on the slide. He then somehow fell into the pipe structure, where he became trapped.Crews had to dismantle the slide in order to get the victim's body out.He has since been identified as 31-year-old Ryan Kelly.
