SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The County of San Diego released a 200-page report on Thursday that examines its handling of the recent Hepatitis A outbreak that infected almost 600 people and caused 20 deaths.The report details the county’s successes and what recommendations it has for the future. County officials have been criticized by some people who believe there was not enough action taken at the time.“The county seems to be more interested in its [own image] rather than solving problems,” prominent homeless advocate Michael McConnell told 10News by phone Thursday. He said that from what he knows, there’s little new information in the audit.RELATED: Health officials reminding San Diegans about hepatitis A shotMcConnell added it appears there’s little insight into what could’ve been done before the health concern became a full-blown epidemic.“It certainly appears there were many flaws in the reaction,” McConnell said.McConnell wrote a letter Thursday to state Assemblymember Todd Gloria, outlining a “disturbing timeline,” claiming county officials knew about the outbreak last March but didn't meet until May 4, "despite three deaths and 80 documented cases.”RELATED: Hepatitis A emergency officially ends in San Diego County A state of emergency was declared in September and it was lifted in January.Gloria recently asked for a state audit on the outbreak.In the county’s defense, the report says it acted at the start of the outbreak by providing vaccinations, promoting sanitation and educating community medical providers.RELATED: Audit questioning San Diego's response to hepatitis A outbreak requestedThe report does, however, acknowledge the needs for better coordination among leadership, more training and improving the county’s immunization registry system, among other recommendations.McConnell says, “I think for the most part [the county’s saying], ‘We did a great job. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The man suspected of opening fire on U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at the border Monday has been named.San Diego Police say 23-year-old Travis James Eckstein, a U.S. citizen, was shot and killed during a shootout with CBP officers Monday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Eckstein was driving from Mexico into the U.S. and refused to stop for officers. Officers say Eckstein tried to drive through an inspection area, before a vehicle blocked his exit.He then began to fire on officers before he exited his vehicle continued shooting. He said he was driving back home to Chula Vista from Mexico on Monday evening. Moments after he cleared customs, he said he saw a white truck blaze past him. He immediately saw CBP agents throw out spike strips on the ground and the driver of the truck crash into another vehicle. Seconds after two separate shootouts, our viewer saw agents dragging Eckstein onto the sidewalk. Meanwhile, other officers were pointing their guns at the bullet-ridden truck, addressing the passengers. Two male Chinese nationals, ages 18 and 27, were found in the rear of Eckstein's truck and were interviewed and released to CBP officials.First responders attempted life-saving measures on Eckstein, but he did not survive his injuries.Seven CBP officers were involved in the shooting but, miraculously, none were injured.“The CBP officers risked their own lives to protect the public from this gunman,” Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations, said in a release. “Human smuggling is always dangerous. A portion of the post talks about her son's recent medical condition. “We are all All Shocked, Devastated & Heartbroken! He also had many concussions, his Brain didn’t Think like a Normal Person.”Kniss concluded the post with sorrow.“We weren’t okay with the choices Travis had made. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Hillcrest Business Association is making some changes to the Pride kickoff party this year they hope will make the event more inclusive. According to Benjamin Nicholls, the association’s Executive Director, entry to the event won’t be limited to those 21 and up this year. “We just felt it was a little odd to say ‘oh under 21 you can’t come,’ so we took down the fences and made it all ages,” Benjamin said. On top of taking down the fence that normally surrounds the event, entry will also be donation based. “What we want to do is we want to take down the barriers to entry and that means physically taking down the fences and also charging nothing for folks to get in,” Nicholls added. Nicholls says he hopes the changes will get more people involved. Pride this year will be held on July 12, 13 and 14. 840

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Grinch is back yet again to steal Christmas from San Diego.The Old Globe Theatre's production of "Dr. Suess's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" returns to San Diego for its run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 24. Back for its 20th year, the holiday classic brings Whoville to the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in Balboa Park.
