California Pizza Kitchen locations are holding a "Pizza with a Purpose" event in honor of California Highway Patrol Officer Andre Moye Jr.'s family on Tuesday. On Aug. 12 around 5:35 p.m., CHP Officer Andre Moye, Jr. stopped the driver of a white GMC pickup for an unknown offense off the 215 Freeway in Riverside. At some point during the traffic stop, Moye decided to impound the man’s vehicle and called for a tow truck.While Moye was filling out paperwork, the man got a rifle from his truck and started shooting at the officer. Moye returned fire, and even though he had been shot, he was able to radio for help. Boeing has developed a software patch and pilot training program to address issues with the Boeing 737 MAX identified in the October Lion Air crash, the Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday.The FAA and other airplane regulators worldwide grounded the 737 MAX a week ago following a crash in Ethiopia. The agency said data and physical evidence shows similarities between the Ethiopian Airlines crash and the Lion Air crash less than six months ago.On Wednesday, the FAA provided an incremental update on its fix to the plane, which it has previously said will be rolled out "no later than April 2019.""The FAA is aware that Boeing is developing a Service Bulletin that would specify the installation of new flight control computer operational program software," the FAA said in an international notice."Boeing has also developed flightcrew training related to this software," it said. "The FAA's ongoing review of this software installation and training is an agency priority, as will be the roll-out of any software, training, or other measures to operators of the 737 MAX."The FAA has previously said the updates will address the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, known as MCAS. Investigators are probing whether faulty data coming into that system drove the Lion Air plane into a steep dive that the pilots were unable to overcome. "I love looking at them I love holding them."The success of the titles, authors and tales on the shelves of his Atlanta shop are a big part of the twists and turns in the story of his small business.He opened A Capella Books in 1989. In the beginning, he focused on books that were hard to find."Used books, ordinary used books, scarce and rare books," Reiss said. Then, people started to turn to the internet for books. "When Amazon showed up, books came pretty available, anyone with a computer could find a book anywhere and it got more and more that way," Reiss said. "A lot of our inventory that used to be scarce, out of print, to to even 0 books became pretty common," Reiss said. "Became and books and it became difficult to make a living selling those."Reiss says his expenses continued to rise while his sales didn't. To keep his business and his job alive, he had to climb into a hole. He says he started putting expenses on credit cards. He says 15 years ago, the debt was at its worst."I probably got to about a quarter million dollars in debt," he said. The plot twist that changed his store was figuring out what to offer the internet couldn't. "We could really capture an audience for books when you could bring the authors to town or store or other venues in town and give their fans the opportunity to meet them and get their books signed," Reiss said. Reiss started to work with the Carter Presidential Library, not far from A Capella, to hold book signings and events. He also started to sell newer books and moved his business to a cheaper location. "Sales versus our low point versus now is probably six times the revenue that we had at its low point," Reiss said.He also says an independent bookstore has a human element the internet does not. "We know our customers reading taste, they know our taste, we have conversations and its a very real experience," Reiss said.Independent book sales rose steadily at the end of last decade, according to the Independent Booksellers Association. “I think you can open a book and just be they can take you anywhere,” said Reiss. Authorities this weekend announced they had foiled three potential mass shootings after arresting three men in different states who expressed interest in or threatened to carry them out.All three cases were brought to authorities' attention thanks to tips from the public.Here's what we know about them.Police say he had the motivation and the ammunitionIn Connecticut, 22-year-old Brandon Wagshol was arrested after authorities said he had expressed interest in committing a mass shooting on Facebook, according to a statement from the FBI and the Norwalk Police Department.He faces four charges of illegal possession of large capacity magazines, and is being held on a 0,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court September 6.According to the statement, authorities received a tip that Wagshol was trying to buy large capacity rifle magazines from out of state.As the FBI and the Norwalk Police Department were investigating the tip, they discovered Wagshol was trying to build his own rifle and had allegedly posted on Facebook about his interest in committing a mass shooting, the statement said. Authorities did not provide details on what the post said.Authorities executed a search warrant at his home and found multiple weapons, including a handgun, a rifle, a rifle scope with a laser, numerous rounds of ammunition, body armor, a ballistic helmet and other tactical gear, police said.
