WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has issued a directive halting the eviction of certain renters though the end of 2020 to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. Senior administration officials say the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has broad authority to take actions deemed reasonably necessary to prevent the spread of a communicable disease. The president and CEO of the National Low Income Housing Coalition, Diane Yentel, says the order will provide relief for millions of anxious families, but adds that the action delays rather than prevents evictions. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration has sued former national security adviser John Bolton to block the publication of a book that the White House says contains classified information.The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, follows warnings from President Donald Trump that Bolton could face a “criminal problem” if he doesn’t halt plans to publish the book.The administration has also said the former adviser did not complete a pre-publication review to ensure that the manuscript did not contain classified material.The suit asks a judge to direct Bolton to notify his publisher that he was not authorized to release “The Room Where It Happened,” to further delay the release date of the book, and to instruct the publisher to take any and all steps to retrieve and dispose of any copies of the book that may be in the possession of any third party.The complaint also asks a judge to order that “all monies, gains, profits, royalties and other advantages” that Bolton and his agents receive from the book be placed in a “constructive trust for the benefit of the United States.Bolton’s attorney, Chuck Cooper, has said Bolton worked for months with classification specialists to avoid releasing classified material.Cooper has accused the White House of using national security information as a pretext to censor Bolton.As of Tuesday, Amazon listed the book as being released next week, on June 23. 1449

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The backbone of the American election system rides on the shoulders of an army of paid volunteers: poll workers, who take time out of their lives to spend Election Day helping others have their say at the ballot box.“Poll worker recruitment is an issue every election cycle,” said Jeanette Senecal with the League of Women Voters.It’s an issue even more so this year.In the 2016 election, there were nearly a million poll workers across the country, 917,694, working at more than 116,000 polling sites.Many of the poll workers tended to be older: 56% were over the age of 61.Now, though, concerns about COVID-19 mean many in this population, vulnerable to the virus, are choosing to sit out this time around.“Poll workers are kind of the make or break point,” Senecal said. “If they're the people who are interfacing with the voters, they're the people who are supporting those voters at the polling place on Election Day.”Officials estimate that across the U.S. about a quarter of a million poll workers may still be needed. It can take about 30 days to train them all, which means they need poll workers to sign up right now, in order to be ready by Election Day. Poll worker pay varies by county, but in some it can be as much as an hour.“This is a real opportunity for us to recruit a new generation of Americans, who can help ensure a safe and fair and as smooth as possible Election Day,” said Erika Soto Lamb, a vice-president at Comedy Central and MTV.The networks are part of a new, national non-profit coalition called Power the Polls, targeting younger people, who have never been poll workers before.“The work of Power the Polls is really in sounding the alarm bell, bringing people into the mix and then connecting them with their local boards of elections and secretaries of state, to make sure they are plugged in to work the polls in areas that need it the most,” Soto Lamb said.If there is a shortage of poll workers, experts fear some polling places may not be able to open at all and the ones that do could experience long lines.“This summer, we saw a voting rights legend pass away in Congressman John Lewis, whose life was built around voting rights and access – and this is one of those component parts,” Soto Lamb said.So far, Power the Polls has recruited 160,000 poll workers for Election Day. WAVERLY, Ohio -- One of the four suspects charged in the murder of the Rhoden family pleaded not guilty during his arraignment in court today.Edward “Jake” Wagner was arraigned on aggravated murder charges in Pike County court.It’s not clear what role Jake Wagner is suspected of playing in the 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden family. Investigators believe Jake Wagner was in a custody dispute with one of the victims, 19-year-old Hanna Rhoden.Authorities arrested Jake Wagner, his brother, George Wagner IV, and parents, George “Billy” Wagner III and Angela Wagner on Nov. 13. Jake Wagner faces additional charges for having sexual contact with Hanna Rhoden when she was 15 years old and he was 20.Officials set the following court dates: 774
