PACIFIC BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - El Prez Beach Bar and Cocina in Pacific Beach was shut down by the Health Department in May just one day after San Diego restaurants were allowed to reopen, and a few weeks later, the business is now back open with new rules.RELATED: Pacific Beach's El Prez shut down for violating health ordersMultiple officials highlighted a video posted to social media that showed a crowded bar with a lack of social distancing and masks, causing the closure. Bar management has worked with the Health Department and the business is now back open with strict guidelines. Patron Matt Holman visited El Prez Saturday, June 13 and said he was pleasantly surprised to see all of the precautions being taken.“We noticed at the door there was a ‘covid coordinator,’ she looked like she was having an awesome time, kind of regulating everybody, making sure everybody was six feet apart,” he said, noting he witnessed a group get turned away when one person’s temperature was too high.He also said the rules were strict once inside.“When you sit down at the table, you can take your mask off, but you’re only allowed to get up from the table if you’re going to the bathroom or if you’re leaving the restaurant, so they were very specific about that,” he said.A previous statement from El Prez highlighted planned steps for reopening, including:We will have two separate lines to enter the restaurant. One will be for our rooftop and the other will be for our main level. The lines will be organized outside the restaurant and we will have 6’ markers to delineate where customers can stand. There will be no more lines on the main level. And we will have a security guard to remind guests to stand at least six feet of distance between parties and that masks must be worn at all times.All patrons must be served at tables. The tables will be socially distant from each other. There is no standing room inside the restaurant.We will bring on additional staff to ensure masks are worn at all times. If customers do not wear their masks, we will, unfortunately, have to ask them to leave.We will increase signage throughout the restaurant notifying customers of the county’s and state rules. The Presena Glacier in northern Italy appears pink because of algae on it, which scientists say could speed up melting of the ice.The Presena Glacier is in the Alps, just south of Italy’s border with Switzerland. PHOENIX — An Arizona ICU nurse does not mince words when detailing what work and life are like during the COVID-19 pandemic. Tough shifts and a potential surge that he fears will only get worse."As soon as I park, I have very low expectations these days," said Eddy De La Torre, a nurse at a Phoenix-area hospital. "It sucks to say that but it's just bad all around."De La Torre said staffing continues to be one of the biggest challenges given the increase in patients."The biggest issue is surrounding staffing," he said. "Staffing in a sense that with the amount of patients that are in the hospital, we're finding it harder and harder to find ways to provide each patient a nurse in the safest manner possible."He also described seeing extremely sick patients, and a staff that is feeling the effects of working on the front lines for months."We're exhausted, man," he said. "We're exhausted."As ICU beds become a scarce resource around the state, De La Torre told ABC15 those beds are in low supply at this hospital. As of Wednesday, the Arizona Department of Health Service's dashboard there were 9% of ICU beds available."It's very few," he said. "And it's smaller and smaller every day."Also on Wednesday, ASU Biodesign Institute Executive Director Dr. Joshua LaBaer said a peak of the current surge may not come until late January or early February."I hope they're wrong," De La Torre said. "If that is the case, then we're going to be in for a rude awakening because that's going to be bad because right now it's horrible."He also told KNXV-TV that fellow staff members are stretched thin and working to handle the uptick in patients."I wish I can tell you that I've been able to talk to a COVID patient," he said. "The last few times I've worked on that unit all my patients have been intubated and the majority of the patients in the ICU are intubated and really sick."He also talked about the ripple effect the surge has across the hospital."Oftentimes we get told, especially in our staffing meetings, that we have A, B and C patients waiting for rooms," he said. Perry Hopsin was just 22 years old when he got into a car accident that would eventually end his life."My brother, he has been to multiple healthcare facilities, fighting for his life for 10 months," said Parris Hopsin.Last month, Perry died and just as his family was starting to cope with the fact that they would never see him again, the same car he was killed in, popped up in front of Perry High School in Stark County, Ohio.The family says it was there to promote their prom promise campaign-which tries to deter teens from drinking and driving."Our family was under the impression that the car was still being held as evidence in this ongoing investigation," said Parris.The only problem is the Hopsins family never consented to it and their loved one was not drinking and driving."It was definitely not the way Perry would want to be represented and/or our family would want him to be represented and remembered," she said.The school has now removed the car and it's back in the towing company's lot."I really appreciate that they would remove it," said Parris.
