SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Grinch is back yet again to steal Christmas from San Diego.The Old Globe Theatre's production of "Dr. Suess's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!" returns to San Diego for its run from Nov. 4 to Dec. 24. Back for its 20th year, the holiday classic brings Whoville to the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in Balboa Park. The Grinch, played by Edward Watts, will embark on a quest to stop Christmas from gracing the town of Whoville, featuring the songs "This Time of Year," "Santa for a Day," and "Fah Who Doraze."RELATED: Holiday family fun around San Diego this seasonBut the action isn't just on the stage.On Sunday, Nov. 12, the show will kick off with the 12th annual tree lighting outside the Globe with a special performance by the cast for free. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The man responsible for a fatal drunk driving crash nearly two years ago was sentenced to more than three decades in prison Friday. San Diego Superior Court Judge Joan Weber handed Jeffrey Levi a sentence of 30 years to life in prison, plus an additional four years for the crash that killed 19-year-old Isaac Felix and 33-year-old Jesus Dominguez. “I do want to remind you Mr. Levi, because I know that you’re going to be living with that for the rest of your life, that you killed these two young people and burned them to death, you permanently maimed another young woman, and injured an officer,” said Weber. “By my count, you made four fatal decisions on that night."In January 2018, Levi got behind the wheel of his Mustang while drunk and drove more than 100 miles per hour on Interstate 15. RELATED: 2 dead in fiery crash on I-15 in Scripps RanchHis car slammed into a Toyota Corolla carrying Felix, Jesus Dominguez, and Giovanna Dominguez. The Corolla was disabled in the freeway lanes, then hit by an SUV driven by an off-duty San Diego Police sergeant. The sedan burst into flames, killing Felix and Jesus Dominguez. Giovanna was severely injured but rescued by Good Samaritans. Sgt. Raymond Rowe was also injured. Levi fled the scene, completely uninjured. He was later found and arrested. “I made very serious mistakes with detrimental consequences; I relapsed,” said Levi after explaining his attempt at rehab for his alcoholism. “I think of Jesus, Isaac, Giovanna and their friends and families every day. I wish that I could do or say something to change what happened, but I can’t and I have to live with that forever.” In August, a jury found Levi guilty of second-degree murder, hit and run, drunk driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He also has a prior DUI conviction from 2007. The victims’ families have also filed a civil lawsuit against Levi, the City of San Diego and Sgt. Rowe. That case is pending. 1977

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The 19th annual True Blue Luncheon celebrated the bravery shown by three officers who shared their experience in the Rolando shooting almost a year later.The very shield that protected Officers Francisco Roman and Dan Bihum was at the luncheon, helping SD Police Foundation donors understand what their money is going toward. The shield is hefty, with a steel plate inside, according to Officer Trevor Philip.Bihum said he saw two bright flashes, "two of the rounds struck me." "He literally fell right in front of me it was probably one of the hardest moments of my life," Roman said.RELATED: Body camera video shows San Diego Police shooting in RolandoThat night, June 23, 2018, the distress call from a neighbor concerned about Joe Darwish turned into a gunfight injuring two officers and ultimately ending with Darwish's death.The shield was handed to Roman and Bihum while they were trapped in the hallway."As soon as Francisco got the shield in front of them he took another volley of gunfire and two of the rounds hit the shield," a SWAT Officer said."Just a great feeling because we had some form of protection," Roman said. Both officers struggled to share, as they relived the moments on that day."The shield absolutely saved our life," Roman said tearing up. He looked away, clenched his jaw and continued, "it definitely saved us for sure."Thursday, they shared their story with a room full of donors in the Harbor Island Sheraton. Their goal is in sharing their trauma, they hoped to inspire San Diegans to open their wallets and help them buy 758 more shields so that their brothers and sisters in blue are protected. The money raised by the luncheon goes to the San Diego Police Foundation, who helps buy whatever the department needs. In 2018, the luncheon raised 0,000. This year they hope to raise 5,000.The 19-year tradition has a new name and has been filling the gap between city funds and SDPD's needs. 1957
