(KGTV) - More schools are equipping themselves with "lock-down lavatories" amid a rise in school threats posted on social media.At Rancho Bernardo High School, graduate Dallin Dunn felt the pain and embarrassment of using a make-shift bathroom during a lock-down in May of 2017. Two posts on Snapchat put the school on lock-down for hours, forcing his group in the library to take desperate measures."With the stress of testing and the lock-down it was just so much that people had to use the restroom and those trash cans had to be used," Dunn said."Twenty years ago you'd never think you would need some way to create an immediate restroom for students to be able to use," Principal David LaMaster said.Dunn was inspired to create a solution, and changed his Eagle Scout Project last minute focused on his peers."We had actually looked at products to purchase but realizing there's a cost to that, we didn't know how exactly we were going to cover that," LaMaster said.Dunn said he had huge support from the start from the community and school, saying the PTSA footed the bill, "I actually got a grant for ,000 and we used about 0 of that."Dunn coordinated an effort, assembly-line style, creating 102 lock-down lavatories so each room was stocked.He pulled out a foam ring, made of pipe insulation and covered with plastic. The ring cut lengthwise to easily attach to the rim of the bucket, providing a seat. "So you just wrap it around the rim and it's able to collapse into the bucket," he said. It also includes, "gloves for you know obviously cleaning up, some extra sleeves so you can reuse this, throw that away and reuse it again, some instructions and some extra bags," toilet paper and hand sanitizer.The solution becoming more common, in 2015 San Diego Unified School District added 6,000 lock-down lavatories to their campuses."I do know that other school districts are having outside vendors donate or they're buying resources and things like that so I feel like we're well ahead of the curve," LaMaster said.The lavatories were places throughout campus midway through the 2018-2019 school year, ready for students in the future, while all hope the need never arises.LaMaster said in his seven years as a principal he's only experience one lock-down scenario. 2311

President Donald Trump's long-time confidant Keith Schiller privately testified that he rejected a Russian offer to send five women to then private-citizen Trump's hotel room during their 2013 trip to Moscow for the Miss Universe pageant, according to multiple sources from both political parties with direct knowledge of the testimony.Schiller, Trump's former bodyguard and personal aide, testified that he took the offer as a joke, two of the sources said. On their way up to Trump's hotel room that night, Schiller told the billionaire businessman about the offer and Trump laughed it off, Schiller told the House intelligence committee earlier this week.After several minutes outside of Trump's door, which was Schiller's practice as Trump's security chief, he said he left.Members of the committee raised the matter because of salacious allegations laid out in a dossier compiled by former British agent Christopher Steele, an opposition research document funded by Democrats detailing alleged ties between Trump and his associates with Russians.During this week's closed-door hearing, House lawmakers walked through a Daily Caller article, which raised some of the allegations about Trump's Moscow trip from the dossier and discussed an alternative story involving Schiller's role in rejecting the Russian offer of sending prostitutes to Trump's room.The dossier's claims about Trump's activities in Moscow are some of the most incendiary claims in the memos compiled by Steele, which claimed that Russia obtained "kompromat," or dirt, on Trump to use as blackmail. Trump has long denounced the dossier and flatly denied its assertions.Stuart Sears, an attorney for Schiller, said the chairman and ranking member of the committee should investigate individuals leaking "misleading versions" of Schiller's testimony, calling the conduct "indefensible" and questioning the credibility of the House inquiry."We are appalled by the leaks that are coming from partisan insiders from the House Intelligence Committee," Sears said in a statement. "It is outrageous that the very Committee that is conducting an investigation into leaks - purportedly in the public interest - is itself leaking information and defaming cooperative witnesses like Mr. Schiller."During the testimony with the House investigators, Schiller denied knowing about the salacious allegations contained in the dossier. RAINBOW, Calif. (KGTV) - A new overpass may be destined for the I-15, not for people but mountain lions.A just-released study led by The Nature Conservancy and backed by the National Park Service recommended a stretch of the I-15 just south of Temecula - either an overpass or underpass like crossings in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming - allowing mountain lions and other wildlife to safely get across.On the west side of the highway is preserve space owned by San Diego State University.  On the other side are 73 acres just purchased by The Nature Conservancy.  Experts says the local mountain lions have been cut off by the freeways and are practicing inbreeding."That makes them more susceptible to disease, and that could be catastrophic for the mountain lion population," said Cara Lacey, an associate program director at The Nature Conservancy.Lacey points out crossings in other states have also cut down on vehicle collisions with wildlife.  She says at least three mountain lions were struck by vehicles in that stretch of I-15 in 2017.  Caltrans is studying a crossing on Highway 101, which would cost between and million. 1165

RANCHO BERNARDO (KGTV)- A coyote with piping trapped around her neck is still suffering, much to the chagrin of neighbors and animal rescue organizations.Katie Ryan first noticed the mother coyote was in trouble April 15th. She has an outdoor camera that captures her side yard in the overnight hours and, prior to this, she's seen lots of animals travel through."We moved in a little over 3 1/2 years ago, and we had no idea that we were moving onto a pathway for all types of wildlife. We've had a raccoon on a nightly basis recently, one of my neighbors had deer, we've seen roadrunners," she said.Katie's worked tirelessly, monitoring the coyote from her window and calling organizations to get help. "[I'm] making sure she's safe and that no one's out trying to injure her more than she already is," she said.The Fund for Wildlife Animal Center, based in Ramona, brought out a large trap, filled it with bait, but the raccoons got to it before they could trap the coyote.Katie had them remove the trap last weekend after a week of no luck. Her hope is another rescue group will be able to trap the coyote Monday night."I want it humane, I don't want, I did talk with some people who... I was not happy with their trapping ideas because she's already in such bad condition," she said.Katie has grown so invested in the animal, she and her husband came up with a name for her, "because of the tubing around her neck, my husband and I were just joking around about it and we just said it reminds us, she looks like a turtle. So we called her Myrtle the Turtle."As time goes on, the situation becomes more desperate. Katie's pictures show how thin Myrtle's become over the past month and she's worried about Myrtle's pups."She's very cut up and could be septic at this point and I noticed she's starting to have problems with her hind legs and her hips," Katie said. "Just watching her try to move from A to B, is painful, it really actually gives me physical and mental pain to see her in that kind of distress."PETA has gotten involved, saying they want to help. The Fund for Wildlife Animal Center says they have room and experts ready to help once Myrtle's caught.If you find a wild animal, you are advised to not approach it, touch it or feed it, contact animal rescue personnel. 2343

Reopening schools and resuming youth sports, playdates and other activities has led to a sharp increase in the number of American children testing positive for COVID-19, according to health authorities.The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association released a report Tuesday showing children, ages 0 to 17, make up about 10 percent of all cumulative U.S. COVID-19 cases. Children were just 2 percent of total cases in April.As of September 24, more than 624,000 children have tested positive for the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. With the U.S. reporting just below 6 million cases total, that means roughly 10.5 percent of all cases are children.More than 74,000 new cases of COVID-19 among children were reported in the two weeks between Sept. 10 and 24, according to the CDC and AAP. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday that the incidence of COVID-19 in school-age children began rising in early September as many youngsters returned to their classrooms.“These rising numbers concern us greatly, as the children’s cases reflect the increasing virus spread in our communities,” said American Academy of Pediatrics President Sally Goza, MD, FAAP in a statement. “While children generally don’t get as sick with the coronavirus as adults, they are not immune and there is much to learn about how easily they can transmit it to others.Over the last several weeks, children have accounted for between 12-16 percent of all new coronavirus cases weekly.Children do appear to have a lower fatality rate. The study shows that roughly 0.01 percent of children who test positive for the coronavirus have died from it.The AAP says these numbers may be low because of inconsistencies in reporting and testing. “The data are limited because the states differ in how they report the data, and it is unknown how many children have been infected but not tested,” they state.The number of children tested compared to the number of all tests being done in this country has remained steady since April of between 5-to-7 percent, according to the CDC.Earlier this month, the CDC released information that the average age of patients testing positive for COVID-19 has dropped to 38 years old in August as more younger Americans contract the coronavirus.The study from CDC also stated about 20 percent of COVID-19 cases are now patients in their 20s. 2407
